This lake spans Benton and Klickitat counties.
Umatilla Lake (reservoir) was created in 1971 when the John Day was built onto the Columbia River. The huge reservoir covers 52,000 surface acres, reaches depths of 145 feet and lies at an elevation of 265 feet. The reservoir contains many different fish species including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, rainbow trout, and salmon and steelhead during the summer and fall. Good access to the Klickitat County portion of the reservoir can be found at Rock Creek where there is an excellent concrete launching ramp and a paved parking for tow rigs and trailers. Bob Johansen
