Pierce County’s Mowich Lake is located about 7 ½ miles NW from Mount Rainier’s summit. At 122 surface acres, it is the largest lake in the Mount Rainier National Park. It has gin clear water, reaches depths of 190 feet and lies at an elevation of 4929 feet. Fish species include rainbow and eastern brook trout. I fished this lake from an 8 foot, car topper pram and caught a few Rainbow Trout while camping on the lakeshore with family and friends in the fall of 1959. Bring a camera – the scenery is fantastic.
