This 50 acre lake is located just west of Highway 101 about four miles south of the south turnoff to Lakeside and Tenmile Lakes. There is a county park and a boat ramp on the east side of the lake near the highway. Because of canals and narrow arms, Saunders has a deceiving amount of shoreline (more than four miles) not much of which is able to be seen from the park. Saunders contains largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegills and white crappies and is very heavily fished from shore. The north end of the lake usually has the best bass fishing. There is a good-sized pond northwest of Saunders and also one just east of Highway 101 immediately north of where the "Old Highway" takes off to the northeast that contain some fair-sized bass. Maude Lake, an 10 acre extension at the southwest end of Saunders Lake dried up in the fall of 2001, but fish from the main lake can easily enter Maude at normal water levels. The least productive fishing area on Saunders is the north arm that reaches to within a few yards of Clear Lake. P Heley
