Famous for producing lunker rainbow and brook trout, this reservoir of more than 4,500 acres also contains a strong population of largemouth bass. Most of the bass population seems to reside on the southeast side of the lake where there are lots of standing and fallen timber on and near the bank. Most of the bass will measure from nine to 12-inches with a few larger. The larger bass in this lake can be extremely chunky as several years ago,
a bass measuring slightly more than 17-inches weighed more than five pounds. Crane Prairie supposedly holds bass that would be state records if legally landed. The best bass fishing is usually from mid-June through early October and a lot of the bass can be spotted before casting to them. Recently, bluegills and some black crappies have become established in the reservoir and may impact the great trout fishing much more than does the bass population.
