At 1385 meters (4,544 feet) of elevation, this lake is found within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and contains cutthroat. The lake is surrounded by cliffs or steep ledges and is therefore deep without any significant shoals. Typical of the other alpine lakes in this area (Trout, Malachite, Copper, Little Heart, Angeline, Otter, etc.), the water is clear with visibility to 20 feet and beyond. The bottom consists mostly of mud and logs and boulders with little to no vegetation. Consequently, chironomids and caddis are found in the lake with some mayflies.
