Thurston County’s Chambers Lake is located about 3 miles S.E. of Olympia. It covers about 73 surface acres, reaches depths of only about 8 feet and lies at an elevation of 194 feet. Fish species include cutthroat trout, largemouth bass, yellow perch, black crappie, pumpkinseed sunfish and a few grass carp. The grass carp are there to control the healthy amount of aquatic vegetation. Bass fishing is good early in the season until the lake becomes very weedy. I once caught a tagged bass that had been rescued from a rehab of another of another lake and put there by the WDFW. Public access is provided by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The large access area has plenty of paved parking for tow rigs and trailers, pit toilets and a good concrete boat launching ramp. By Bob Johansen
