Klickitat County’s Spearfish Lake is located about one mile N.W. from the Dalles Dam. It is fed by Fivemile Creek and was formed in 1956 by seepage from the Dalles Dam. The lake covers about 22 acres, reaches depths of about 20 feet and lies at an elevation of 160 feet.
Fish species include planted rainbow trout and should provide some excellent fishing opportunities on opening day. The lake also is stocked with some brood stock and jumbo rainbows. It is reported that one angler, Mike Martucci, landed a 29 ½ inch triploid rainbow from this lake that weighed 10 pounds even. Spearfish Lake is sometimes very popular with opening day anglers with as many as 150 rigs reported showing up to fish. Most anglers use paddle powered water craft or electric motors on this little lake but I saw no restrictions on outboard engines. If you do use an outboard motor, please be considerate of fellow anglers.
There is a public access with a concrete boat launching ramp and a pit toilet. Shoreline angling is available around the entire lake. Camping is permitted at the lake with a 4 day limit. There few camping amenities other than the pit toilet. Little Spearfish Lake is nearby and provides good fishing opportunities for smallmouth bass.
