Pacific County's Island Lake is a good choice for early season bass. A small, shallow lake near the ocean, it is among the first to warm up in the early spring. I like to fish it during the first warm days of March. Island Lake covers 56 surface acres, a maximum depth of only 8 feet and is at an elevation of only 20 feet. Fish species include largemouth bass, yellow perch and bluegill. Prime bass habitat in this stained water lake includes lots of lily pads, lots of shoreline brush and trees and lots of old logs in the water. There are no shoreline homes on this lake. Public access is provided by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The small access area has few amenities other than limited parking space, and a shoreline launch site that is limited to hand carried craft. Bob Johansen
