Mason County’s Stump Lake covers 23.2 surface acres, has shallow depths and lies at 300 feet of elevation. This little stained water lake is one of my favorite small boat lakes. It is very remote and secluded. Fish species known to me are largemouth bass and rainbow trout. Prime bass habitat as you might expect from the lake name includes lots of old exposed stumps and logs with growing vegetation on them. There is also lots of overhanging brush and trees.
Public access is allowed by the Simpson Timber Company on their forest lands. There is very limited roadside parking and a rough launch area that is best suited for hand carried craft. I fished it from a canoe and caught several nice sized largemouth bass up to 18 inches, 3 pounds, 3 ounces. Bob Johansen
