This lake of about 20 acres is located just south of Saunders and north of
Beale Lake about a quarter mile from each. It is comprised of two sections
separated by a short railroad trestle. The east section is several times
larger than the west section. There is a long narrow arm that is separated from the
rest of the lake that runs along the west side of the
railroad tracks towards Beale Lake that seems to offer the best fishing for decent-sized largemouth bass. Some bluegills weighing more than a pound have been pulled
from the lake and there are fair numbers of crappies averaging about eight
inches, although a few measuring 11 to 13-inches are taken each year.
Crappie catches in 2001 and 2002 dropped way offand have stayed that way.Used to have warmouths, but none have been reported in the last several years. The Riley property adjacent to the north shoreline of Butterfield Lake is being developed as a recreation area complete with RV park. Rainbow trout were planted in 2008, but not many were caught, but nice-sized trout surprised a few bass anglers in 2009. P Heley
