Our first organized clean up of a lake was a big success. Six of us (Microbrew, Sky River Irish, Bill, Jim, Jim J., and myself) picked up over six full trash bags of bottles, cans, litter, rubbish, and stuff too gross to mention. By a strange but appropriate coincidence, today was Earth Day. The weather held up long enough for us to do the cleanup and grab some hot dogs and excellent elk sausage, then the rain and wind came ending the day.

A great way to celebrate Earth Day. Something that may have to be an annual event - or more often. Thanks to all who participated and made this great project possible.

Here's directions: heading east on Hwy 2, about 2-3 miles past Zeke's Drive Inn (Zeke's is a very well known burgers and fries drive-in on Hwy 2 east of Goldbar) (about a mile east of the bridge over the Skykomish. look for NFS road 62 on the south side of the Hwy. There IS a gate right there but I have never known it to be closed. Since I haven't been up there in a couple of years I could be wrong about that, but from the talk here so far it is open. Follow 62 for about 5-6 miles. The spur to Little Cavanaugh is off 62 to the right and doesn't look like much of a road, but is firm and very drivable. If you miss the turn you hit another gate about 1.5 miles further down 62 (I don't know if that one is closed or not). Go down the spur about one quarter mile and there is a rough access to the lake on your left (about 200 yards in). If it's been raining and muddy you might need 4 wheel drive for that last little bit, but its a very short walk anyway. The lake has limited shore access, but a canoe, car topper or personal float is ideal. The lake is very small, maybe 20-30 acres at a guess and only 10-15 feet at the deepest.

When you are going up the road there is a fork in it, Stay to the right, you will then go through some newly harvested areas stay on the main drag. The road will come to a tee go left about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and take the turn on the right.!
