Mack's Lure Legacy of Innovations

There are many fishing lure companies that come and go, but the ones that stick around must be doing something right. Mack’s Lure has been in existence since 1969 and there’s no doubt that they will be around for many years to come. The business itself started with Vern McPherson, his wife Edna, and their son Ray who had started making lures in the garage of their home in Riggins, Idaho. The invention of the Wedding Ring® spinner came into existence, which has been a “must have” in any anglers tackle box even today.
A legacy of innovation to be sure, Mack’s Lure continues to produce quality products that allow anglers to catch more fish. As I’ve learned from my mentors in the fishing industry, when a product is introduced, it usually takes three to four years to catch on. This past year, we have introduced several new products into the arsenal of fish catching killers.
First, if you haven’t heard of the Smile Blade® UV Glo Burst, you must check it out! This blade has already placed in my “Top Five” blades to use, for any type of fishing. As of right now, this blade only comes in three sizes: .8”, 1.1”, and 1.5”. Realistically however, it’s all you need.
The blade itself has the same shape, but it’s the color that will knock your socks off. This blade can be used in clear or darker waters, on sunny or cloudy days; it really doesn’t matter. The rays of the sun (or lack thereof) create a multitude of colors that create a frenzy of different colors with the slightest movement of the blade. The best part of it all is that this blade will spin at less than 1/4MPH, so you will constantly have that flash and attraction to the lure that you are using.
The Smile Blade® SpinDrift® Walleye lure is yet another lure that effectively catches more fish. This lure was given to professional and guide staff of Mack’s Lure; all of which asked for more! If a guide is using a lure to catch more fish, wouldn’t you want the same lure they are using? Now you can.
The hook itself is produced by VMC who have given Mack’s Lure the right to produce the lure with their product. The hook itself is made of heavy gauged steel that has an integrated swivel to hook system that allows the hook and swivel to move freely from each other.
The results are staggering, which gives it a corkscrew rotation in the water. No longer are the days of using a full night crawler either. Tipped with a 1.1” Smile Blade, this lure has, and will continue to catch not only walleye, but trout, kokanee, bass, and panfish.
The Smile Blade® SpinDrift® Trout looks like a Wedding Ring® Pro, but combined with the SpinDrift hook, this lure is deadly! I started fishing with this lure back in December of 2014 and it has produced trout, kokanee, and even a few panfish.
It doesn’t matter what bait you choose to use, it spins in the water. The beauty of this lure is that it can be trolled or even rigged to cast from a boat or shoreline. Combine this lure with a Double D™ Dodger, Hot Wings®, Flash Lite® attractor and you’ll be catching fish in no time. Again, this lure is tipped with a 1.1” Smile Blade which provides even more flash and attraction.
These are just a few of the new innovative lures that we’ve come out with in 2015.
