For many year’s now the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council (INWC) has partnered with the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) to host a “Spokane Kid’s Fishing Event” at Clear Lake. Clear Lake is a popular fishing hole, located roughly 30 minutes west of Spokane just a few minutes off I-90. Popular for its trout fishing, anglers try the waters all summer long. The event is held at the Fairchild Air Force Base Recreation Area. Kids who participate in the event May 7th have a great chance of success! Fishing starts at 8 am and usually finishes by 2 to 3 pm. Registrations are limited to the first 950 received.



The Wildlife Council provides volunteer staff for organizing and running the event. INWC volunteers also assemble hundreds of fishing poles each year and “gear them up” with tackle. Kids age 5 to 14 who participate can keep their poles and tackle, and they also receive a Kid’s Fishing t-shirt. Participants have a “3-fish limit” for the event. The cost for participation for this event is only $10 thanks to the generous support of the INWC, WDFW and sponsorship from the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Neis Family Memorial.

This is one of many events where The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife teams up with businesses, organizations and volunteers from all over Washington to provide fishing opportunities for children ages 5 to 14. Most of these events take place from April through June, and each provides a day of fishing for a few dozen to several hundred kids and their families. Each of these youth fishing events is different from all the rest.
