Vancouver Island Fishing Wrap Up!

There has been a lot of talk in the news about the decline in our southern resident killer whales. The science shows the downward trend over the past 40 years, but historically the population is no different than it was 50 years ago. Blame is being placed on the decline of the Chinook Salmon stocks up and down the coast. With that said, Area 25 where our lodge is located, is one of the only areas on the coast to have a stable Chinook population over the past 20 years. Much of this success is due to our local hatchery programs that you, as Reel Obsession guests, have been helping to support for the past 18 years.
This year alone with your contributions, we directly raised $7,075! Just amazing!
With the volunteer work we do in the off season for our South Vancouver Island dinner and gala, there was another $70,000 raised indirectly! Our actions today have an affect on the world around us, so with that... a huge thank you to our awesome guests for your generous contributions to this valued and much needed resource.
What does all this mean?! With much of the coast having reduced limits in 2018, we are looking at a stable Chinook stock on the North West Coast of Vancouver Island. Chinook limits should stay the same and rumors of area 25 having AN INCREASED DAILY LIMIT of Coho to 4 fish. Now none of this will be set in stone for some time, but this is what we are hearing from our local Sport Fishing advisory board.
2018 was a great success for Reel Obsession! Thank you to everyone who fished with us and to those who have already made your 2019 booking. If you are planning on fishing in our 2019 season, our dates are filling fast. You do not want to miss one of our few remaining spots. For anyone receiving this who has not fished with us before, please check our great reviews on trip advisor and google.
"I've always wanted to take this kind of fishing adventure and Reel Obsession made it even more special. The setting is beautiful and the lodge is just what you'd want in a fishing retreat. The accommodations were comfortable, the food far exceeded our expectations and the staff made us feel welcome from the time we arrived. Of course the fishing was excellent - and each guide knew his stuff plus they were just plain nice guys. Adrian & Angie run a first class operation at a reasonable price. I hope to bring my sons next time."

"First class accommodations. Adrian and Angie have a first class business including our captain Kashes, chef Billie, Alecia, Sam and the rest of the land staff. Fishing with Captain Kashes was awesome. 3 full days on the water we got our limit of Kings, Silvers, Lingcod, Rockfish, and 1 fish shy of a Halibut limit. Boat was in excellent condition, music playlist was fantastic! Food was 5 star, 3 course dinners were amazing, thanks chef Billie!" - Tony Lactaoen | Fish Dates: July 16-18, 2018
We can't go any further without a special shout-out to this wicked crew! From a very full season with minimal time off ...to getting us through the forest fire chaos at the end, a heartfelt thanks to our 2018 team - all the best to these talented individuals. Hoping we are lucky enough to see them again next year.
Angie and I will be at the Puyallup Outdoor Sportsman Show January 23-27 in booth number 422 in the main building (same corner slot as last year). Let us know if you can make it and we will track down complimentary tickets for you.
