31st ANNUAL CENTRAL WASHINGTON SPORTSMEN SHOW
AT THE SUNDOME IN YAKIMA

The 31st annual Central Washington Sportsmen Show is set to open the doors Friday, February 14th at the Yakima Valley SunDome and runs through Sunday, February 16th. The Dome will once again be full of quality exhibits, displays, and presentations with lots of things to see and do for the entire family. Everything from hunting and fishing gear and guides, outdoor displays and exhibits, fishing boats, camp trailers, and ATVs. It will all be found under one roof at the 2020 Central Washington Sportsmen Show.
This year’s event will feature, for the first time, Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures from the East Coast. The popular Horn and Antler competition, sponsored by Cabela’s, will once again fill the east side concourse of the Dome, and the always awesome NW Big Game display will be found at the west side concourse. The 2nd Annual Yakima Bait Yard Sale will have some of their products available during this year’s show at special discount prices all three days. Plus, the Ascending Adventures 24’ high climbing wall will be set up at the SE corner.

Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures will be making its first trip ever to the Yakima Valley and the 2020 Central Washington Sportsmen Show. Fresh from the East Coast, Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures is a fast-paced educational wildlife show geared for the entire family to enjoy. The audience will be treated to a wide array of animals that could include alligators, snakes, owls, falcons, foxes, armadillos, turtles, and maybe even a Chilean flamingo. “Nature” Nick is a TV personality, author, and professional animal trainer who personally presents all shows himself. After each presentation, Nick will be available for a meet and greet where audience members can interact with some of the animals and have their photos taken. There will be several presentations each show day. Check the schedule for specific time.
The Seminar Room at the 2020 Central Washington Sportsmen Show will be very busy all three days of the show with fishing and hunting experts sharing their advice and knowledge each show day. Speakers at this year’s show include: outdoor writer Rob Phillips covering Lake Roosevelt rainbows and kokanee on Friday only; fishing guide, Lance Effrig on Lake Chelan kokanee; guide, Shane Magnuson presenting trolling crank baits for walleye and how to catch more spring Chinook; Red’s Fly Shop with mountain creek fishing; and on Saturday only, walleye expert and guide, Shelby Ross covers spring time walleye.
For the hunters and gun enthusiasts, certified instructor from “The Range”, Dave Kellett will teach what you will need to know for concealed carry; elk hunting expert, Cory Christman with Rocky Mountain Game Calls will give demonstrations on elk calling; and turkey hunting expert, Richard Mann will offer turkey hunting tips.

The 2020 Tour of the NW Big Game returns to the SunDome with an impressive display of big game trophies taken in the northwest. Included in this year’s display will be the Fife buck, taken by local archer, Jake Fife in 2017 which established a new state record archery non-typical mule deer for the State of Washington. Also included in this year’s display will be five elk over 400 inches and several other impressive trophies. The 4th edition of the Record Book for Washington will be available to purchase, and this will be the last year to be included in the upcoming 5th edition record book.
The 31st Annual Horn and Antler Competition, sponsored by Cabela’s is always a crowd favorite and is the only competition in central Washington where hunting trophies are scored, then displayed for all to see. The highest scoring trophies entered in the competition taken by archery, muzzleloader, and modern rifle during the 2019 season, will have a chance to win product from the Cabela’s Outpost in Union Gap. Older entries can be scored and displayed but are not eligible for “Best of Show” prizes.
The Casting Pool will once again be a busy place during the 2020 Central Washington Sportsmen Show. The 12th Annual Trout Races will take place at the south end on Saturday only at 3:00. The KXDD Casting Contest will test young anglers’ skills at the dry end of the Casting Pool at 1:00 on Saturday only. Also, Paul Anderson of Fly Fishing Strategies as well as instructors from Red’s Fly Shop will conduct fly casting demonstrations several times daily.

Fly tying experts will be teaching how to tie their favorite flies each show day at the Fly Tying Theater, located at the north end of the SunDome. Members of the Yakima Flyfishers Association will host the Fly Tying Clinic each day, offering expert instruction for anyone who wants to sit down and tie their own fly from start to finish.
Outside the SunDome on Saturday and Sunday only, the Central Washington Weight Pullers will once again host a dog weight pull sanctioned by the International Weight Pullers Association. Since the pull is held outside at the south side of the SunDome, anyone can come and watch this event free of charge.
There is always something for the kids to do at the show and this year is no exception. Kids can test their shooting skills at the Mt. Clemans Archers Archery Range and the On Target Air Rifle Range; fish for feisty trout at Lunker Lake; learn how to tie a fly at the Fly Tying Theater; learn how to cast a fly at the Kids’ Fly Casting Clinic; try the new 24’ high climbing wall; and take in Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures with several shows daily. On Sunday, “Kids’ Day” every kid will be admitted to the show at a reduced rate and they can fish all day long at Lunker Lake free of charge, courtesy of the Les Schwab Tire Stores in the Yakima Valley. Add to that several drawings just for kids and all the activities at the Valley Marine’s Kids’ Korner, and it will be easy for the kids to find something to do at this year’s show.

As always, sportsmen show attendees will be able to save money on general admissions as well as have a chance to sign up for one of many door prizes donated by show exhibitors. The Grand Door Prize this year, drawn Sunday at the close of the show, will be a $250 gift card from the Cabela’s Outpost in Union Gap.
General admission is $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for children 6-12. Children under 6 are admitted free all three days of the show. Friday is Seniors’ Day with everyone 60 or older getting into the show for $6.00 and Sunday is Kids’ Day, where all kids ages 6-12 are admitted for $1.00 off the normal admission price. There is also a discount for all members of the military, which is $1.00 off any admission all weekend with their military ID. Remember to get your hand stamped and you can return to the show the rest of the weekend.

For those who come early, a special prize awaits them at the entrance of the show. On Friday and Saturday, the first 150 adults through the door will receive a bag of stuff furnished by Oak Creek ACE Hardware from Naches. And on Sunday, Kids’ Day, the first 100 kids will receive a goody bag courtesy of the Central Washington Sportsmen Show.
Show hours are Friday 1:00 to 7:00; Saturday 10:00 to 6:00; and Sunday 10:00 to 5:00. And remember, parking is at a reduced rate of only $4.00 per day all three days of the 2020 Central Washington Sportsmen Show courtesy of Shuyler Productions.
