Re: Tips for a newbie/visitor?
In the spokane area for trout, Sprague lake is right off of hwy 90 between seattle and spokane and is pretty close to spokane. there are lots of reports on this site, and there is shore access. If you check the four seasons campground and resort on facebook, they post regular updates when the fish a...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
Just curious where you were finding Autochart for $65, I was looking online and I could find the card by itself for that price, but that doesn't come with the software. Thought I'd check in case you are going to end up with card that you won't have a way of programming.

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
I knew that you could do the real time mapping with the new onyx fishfinders. But that is cool that you can upgrade to do it with the other units. I think that laptop screens are generally not bright enough to view outside. If they could make it work with a tablet or smart phone, I think that would ...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
I looked at the autochart manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2IE_4njdjrPNTRsQkVHclAtU2s/view" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This didn't come with Autochart when I bought it, so the link (from the BBC forum) was really useful Minimum PC Requirements: Microsoft® Windows® operati...

Re: Humminbird AutoChart
I think it can be confusing to try and figure out if your fishfinder is compatible with Autochart. The main issue with compatibility is whether you can view the contour maps you made while you are on the water (i.e. showing your GPS position on the chart while you move around which is definitely a h...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
I could see how it could be useful to look at the data on the water because a lot of times when I look at the tracks after coming home I realize I wasn't getting good depth data or something, so it is possible to waste time on the water cruising in grids patterns thinking you are getting useful info...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
Yes that is definitely what it is good for. It comes with a chart that you can view on your fishfinder that you would put your own contours on. If the lakes you fish and the PO river do not have the shoreline on the map (surprisingly this is the case for the Snake River), there is a tutorial on the ...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
If you can get autochart for $65 that is terrific and I wouldn't think twice about it. I got Autochart pro on ebay for around $200 which I couldn't be sure would be worth it. Autochart pro let's you map your SI data, but I haven't found it to be that useful so I use mainly the normal Autochart featu...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd love to find a late fall spots because I fish this area the most since it is the closest to home. That area of the snake (downstream from clarkston) has very little flow although you get slight currents from wind or dam spill. The upstream area to hells canyon has cur...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
I'm not sure if that is real, the contours are based on fishfinder tracks and sometimes there are incorrect readings. but that gives me something to go on. Sounds like looking for humps or structure in the deep area would be something to look for...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
It drops off pretty quick to about 100 feet. On this map I made with my fishfinder, the arrows point to two spots that are really productive in the spring, summer, and late summer that are right next to deep water. The scale for the grids on the map are 240 feet. From lower granite dam up to clarkst...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
Thanks for the tip, these are rocky areas where debris from canyons makes underwater points, they were really responding to crankbaits in Sept in up to 15 FOW, then a couple weeks later nothing. I tried deeper (but not 95 feet!) out to 25 feet drop shotting etc and after several trips of catching on...

Re: Late fall Smallmouth action on the P.O. river
Do the smallmouth migrate in the fall around here? The usual spots in the Snake R. between Clarkston and Lower Granite Dam just went totally dead in September even after being great for a few weeks with the dropping water temps, but by late september it was like a switch turned off.

Re: Sprauge lake
I've fished there a few times a year for the past 10 years or so, haven't been out this year, but around now it should be pretty good trolling for rainbow trout. It can be pretty exciting given the size of some of the fish. I usually troll around in circles on the East end of the lake using various ...

Re: Monofilament For Saltwater
Glad to hear it isn't the Big Game itself that is breaking. I definitely feel like wet Big Game is softer than other brands, not sure if affects knot strength, certainly makes it easier for me to retie. I would assume you are checking for frayed line near the eye of the hook after each fish, since t...

Re: Monofilament For Saltwater
Just curious what the problem is with Berkeley Trilene Big Game. I used fresh Big Game on a 2 day albacore charter last week with fluoro leaders and had no line or knot failures on 25 albacore landed up to 30#. I landed 3 albies that were 20#+ on 15 pound Big Game. Using the 15 was a tactical error ...
