Re: Tigers on the Fly!
Anglinarcher, I fly fish for Muskies exclusively and I take exception to some of the things you said. One in particular is the fly size. "That is mostly a demonstration of foolish statements and bravado" If 12-14" flies bother you-I also make and use 17" flies. Using small flies will get you Muskies...

Re: Tigers on the Fly!
I have used an 8 wt rod in the past but for Muskies it is generally too light. If you intend to make a habit of fly fishing for Muskies, like I do, a ten or a 11wt rod works perfect. In order to get bigger fish interested and actually strike you need to throw 12" to 14" flies. An 8 wt wont do that. ...

Mayfield
Caught two Muskies yesterday but what is very interesting is that one of them , 40"er, was a true Muskie! I've caught many Muskies in the mid west and there was no doubt what so ever.

Re: Poaching and Merwin
Natebg1, Education!!! That's what these assholes have most-a working knowledge of Muskies and their habits. These poachers dont care abot anything except selling fish. If you want, I will drive you in my boat up to these guys and do a video of you teaching them about Muskies....that would be great. ...

Poaching and Merwin
The poaching at Merwin is going very strong. Two different boats working the lake today. The Sheriff in the boats had no idea since no one from the fish and game has bothered to tell them! Merwin will be wiped clean this Summer as soon as the poachers get what they left behind last year. I challenge...

Merwin
For the second time this year I seen the Russian spear gunners having a good time at Merwin. For the second time I informed the officials. I know Merwin probably better than anyone for the number of times I have fished it. There is a lack of big fish this year that one sees in the shallows. Im talki...

Re: 65lb or 80lb braid for the Tigers?
I use 100lb and on one rod 120lb. This heavy line will not bird nest as bad as smaller line and casting distance is the same as 80 or 65. I like to tie directly to 100lb Seagar and the Seagar directly to the lure-no swivels or snaps. This heavy braid allows for a good knot to fluorocarbon. If you ar...

I'm impressed, it's a very good looking bait. Had a chance to see if it runs true?

Re: Musky flies
Now that the year is closing I want to report how my Muskie fly fishing ended. There was some concern that the hooks I am using on my flys were too small (3/0 Tiemco streamer hooks) I landed 28 fish on flies (in 22 trips) and lost 9 that were hooked for more than a second or two. That's around 75% h...

Merwin on the fly
Good Musky day Sat with all the rain and extremely gloomy weather. Water temp at 57 all day. Didn't see any Muskies up shallow at all but then visability really sucked even though it was calm. No bite until 11:30 and my first fish came out of 20 feet of water to crush my fly---40". Six more bites up...

RE:Musky flies
The hooks I am using are 3/0 Umqua streamer hooks. The fly line you said your using is exactly what I am using in a 8 wt. I can get an easy 60 feet with no wind but then I have been fly fishing for 55 years. I have fished Muskies and Pike for a very long time and I think these Muskies are going to b...

Made my own flies to try this year. So far they seem to work good. Yesterday I caught a 36 and had a 40+ on but that one got off.

RE:First Lake?
I believe that there would be a lot of 50" fish every year come out of the NW if only people would use bigger lures. There seems to be the idea that Tigers will not hit large Musky lures. I think most Musky guys around here have been throwing smaller lures and catching tons of Muskies but not so man...
