Re: electric downriggers

BTW if I were looking to sell the boat, I'd be hanging on to my DR's and fish finder. I'm very happy with the setup and have gotten real comfortable with using them and teaching other people who are new to use them. That last point is very important, I can get someone totally new to the game up and ...

Re: electric downriggers

There's no question about the availability of parts and service on the Scotty's in the area. As far as the Cannons go there is a place in Seattle to service them but I haven't been. This is a very important part of the decision process and I think Scotty has a clear edge there particularly in the PN...

Re: electric downriggers

The Scotty's are great and I've used them on other people's boats. I have the Cannons though and like them a lot. I bought them off eBay with a Humminbird fish finder and the link to control them. The Cannons are the Mag 20 DT/TS which are no problem in the salt, rain etc. They detect the ball is up...

I'm missing an orange one with "BRHB" on it but doubt that's the one you have.

Re: Baker Lake Gear Suggestions

Well, as promised, here's the report - I got shut out. We got into Swift Creek campground at 11 pm Friday and had an extremely cranky family on Saturday so no fishing that day but we did put the boat in. This was my first time seeing anything like this. There were several hundred boats in the water....

Re: Baker Lake Harsh Wardens

So first off, that's unbelievable - they actually followed you all day. Second, I intend on bringing my kids with me who are 8, 5, 3 and 6 months. The three oldest have cards and I plan on letting them try to haul one in, but if they can't then what, let it haul them in. If I let the kid reel while ...

Baker Lake Gear Suggestions

ROUND 2...I'm heading to Baker Lake this weekend to take a shot at the sockeye that seemed to escape me on the Skagit. I'm planning on using a dodger (0 or 00), with red hook (14" leader) in addition to some wedding rings. What leader length do you guys use for the Wedding Rings and what size do you...

Re: Skykomish Opening for Kings

I am by no means an expert on the river. The reality is, prop or not, you should use extreme caution because of both thin areas and submerged hazards - take someone with you that knows the river or go with a guide first. Either way, always wear a life jacket. I've been from the confluence all the wa...

Re: Skagit River Boat Launches

It's a CW Storm inboard jet which makes it a little tough at launches because if it gets stuck, it's real heavy.

Thanks

Skagit River Boat Launches

I'm planning a trip to the lower Skagit on a weekday soon and would like recommendations on the best boat launch in the area. I was looking at the one at Edgewater park, is that the safest one to use for a motor boat in your opinion? If so, can you recommend a backup in case its filled? I'd like to ...

Re: Where to fish steelhead?

By the way, if you're new, you'll hear a lot about when to fish a river - usually, after rain while its on the drop. Here is a link to the washington stream flows if you haven't seen it already. This is what everyone is talking about. On each river, there are certain measuring spots that indicate wh...

Re: Where to fish steelhead?

Here you go, I wish this map had existed when I first got going. These are all easy to access bank fishing areas on the Snoqualmie - use them at your own risk as water levels fluctuate and they can be very dangerous for wading. Overall, they stretch primarily from Big Eddy (near Tokul Creek) down to...

Re: Baker Lake Camping

I'm planning a trip up there in late July and will be bringing a boat at Swift Creek - do you think there will be space for parking the boat and trailer? I'm thinking it will be pretty busy.

Thanks
Brian
