Re: Scotty vs Cannon
I’m a scotty fan myself but did see a video of newer high end cannon’s that can be programmed to change depths at regular intervals, ~10-15 ft up and down. Seemed pretty cool, didn’t catch how you manage line/rod tension as it changes depth though. Charter guide made the video and had it all figured...

Just got a brand new Plano waterproof tackle backpack. Little splashy for my taste but still highly recommend it. Neighbors are definitely jealous.

Re: Keep trolling or out in neutral when you hook up?
Trout I keep trolling, usually have a 2nd line down that I want to keep fishing. Trout are typically easy to control and keep away from the prop and 2nd line, have had a few s shows, but nothing major. Kokanee will sometimes put in neutral just to be extra careful with their soft mouths while reelin...

Re: Crab eggs
That’s pretty cool. Apparently juvenile and adult kings and coho gorge on crab larvae, didn’t know that until recently. So we need those for future crabs and to help salmon survive!

Re: Constitutionality of watercraft inspection stations
I’ve stopped at that invasive species station off exit 80. It was no big deal at all. I had thought it was for out of state boats only but the signs said all boats so I stopped. Was asked “when was the last time you used the boat” and “where did you use it”. They checked that my drain plug out was o...

Re: Puget Sound Conditions Forecasting
Hi osprey12, I can offer some general advice and sites, I fish in MA10 mostly and haven’t been in narrows area before so can’t help with specifics unfortunately. I’m in a 16’ with 40hp main and a safety first kind of guy. Doesn’t take a lot of wind/weather before I pass on the sound. Beyond safety t...

Re: New to fishing in WA state! Question about lures.
Have fished a lot here, a few times in Hawaii. Lot more regs and you have to have a license for saltwater here (except this weekend which is a free fishing weekend). Flounder are a good place to start. Pretty liberal regs for those guys. Have only used left over salmon bait to fish for them but they...

Re: Fishing for deep trout with a drop rig
No reason it shouldn’t work. Give it a shot. Wouldn’t worry about snags too much beyond having extra hooks, leader line and weights for when it happens. Bigger issue, depending on how deep you’re talking, is having heavy enough weights to get down and stay fairly vertical as you drift. Not enough we...

Re: fresh water fish for sale in washington lakes
Lol, yeah that was a learning experience. Just my luck to get that guy of all people the first and only time I’ve done that. Oh well, will probably be a nice guy again at some point, hope it works out better! My biggest mistake was telling my family that story (there’s actually more to it as well, t...

Re: fresh water fish for sale in washington lakes
May have been scared off given the stupidity of their initial post. Tempting to view as a troll/trap but there are all kinds of people in the world. Decided to be a nice guy one day as I was launching to fish by myself (I like the solitude) and agreed to take a guy fishing off the dock out. We had a...

Once caught a bullhead trolling a wedding ring 20’ down in ~70’ of water on Sammamish. Fish do the darnedest things!

Re: Lake Sammamish launch fees
Should start by saying I don’t know 100% since I always pay the launch fee but am fairly confident you don’t have to pay both. To be on the safe side I’d pay the launch fee since you are still technically launching a watercraft using the launch access. You’re not parking a trailer though so the park...

Re: Quiet trolling motor
If you have the budget and room for it onboard Quadfather’s setup sounds pretty sweet. Would love those features. If your main is on a separate battery it’s not an issue as I was thinking about it. I’m in a 16’ pro tracer and have everything running off one battery. Also park it in a garage with no ...

Re: Quiet trolling motor
Depends on the trade-offs you value more for your setup, electric is the quietest and lighter but drains battery, a 2 cylinder 8-9.8 hp will be louder and heavier than electric but can charge battery while trolling to run electronics/downriggers and start the main motor. Both are better than 1 cylin...

If I see that on the graph with no bites I start switching out gear and scents. Doesn’t always work but can turn those investigations into bites. A lot of the time they’re checking out your offering and aren’t biting for some reason.

Re: Lake Chelan Cutthroat from Shore
Never fished up there but at about mid-lake fished from shore using a chartreuse berkley trout worm on a drop shot rig. Was just testing and messing around and ended up catching a few cutts fairly fast. Was surprised, give it a shot, no reason it shouldn’t work up there.

Re: New to fishing in WA state! Question about lures.
If you’re fishing for salmon in the any saltwater in WA hooks have to be single point and barbless. Otherwise trebles are ok if not fishing salmon but all hooks have to be barbless in salt. Personally, with the risk of catching rockfish that have to be released in PS, I stick with single point barbl...

Re: River Fishing Line
Hi Grayson, 2nd kodacachers reco and feedback. Generally speaking my river setups are braid to mono bumper to either a mono or fluoro leader depending on water clarity. On braid I use two main knots, double uni to attach bumper and palomar for swivels. Neither is overly difficult with a little pract...

Re: Spinning Reel Advice
Plueger Presidents are the only spinning reels I buy anymore. Have never had one fail me, never. Ones I bought close to 10 years ago work as well as the day I bought them and have never needed any type of refurb or service. At ~$60 a reel I just don’t believe there’s a better value out there. If the...
