Re: Clear lake, Skagit County question
Be careful if you plan to launch a boat at Clear lake. I went last year and popped two boat trailer tires on pieces of rebar sticking out underwater on their "launch". There are two gravel ramps on both sides at the end of the long jetty. Both were sketchy! They had chunks of concrete underwater eve...

Re: Wtb or trade for cheap used 8wt fly reel
Check Cabelas... They often have their Wind River fly reels on sale for $19.99 and they have a large version for 8-9wt rods. I have used several of these reels for a few years and they have held up well and are impressive aluminum reels for the money.

Re: Time to put some horses to good use
Sounds like an awesome time! What I can tell you about Cooper river is that the majority of it is deep within a steep canyon and contains class IV and V rapids. The only relatively easy sections to access and fish would be the top mile or so as it leaves Cooper lake and the bottom where it dumps int...

Looking to buy 40lb pyramid anchor
Hello all, I am having a hard time finding a 40lb pyramid anchor for my drift boat in the Seattle area. If anyone knows where to get one or if any of you have the capability of making one at home, that would be great. I have a 30lb pyramid anchor I could trade if interested. Otherwise I can pay cash...

Get the highest hp you can afford if you are running a jet. It won't hurt to have more than you need. IMO, 40 is not enough.

Re: Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
Mism05 - It is not only about the chum. I am just as upset about people taking any salmon or steelhead from the rivers and dumping it in the dirt after harvesting the eggs. You say you are not intentionally breaking or bending any rules.. would a written statement on this matter from WDFW help clari...

Re: Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
Agreed. Respect for wildlife is something that some people don't seem to understand. I frequently take new fisherman out from this message board that are eager to learn how to catch salmon. I enjoy sharing my knowledge about this resource with those eager to get into the sport, and I hope that they ...

Re: Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
I am relieved to see that some members here see these issues similarly to the way I see it. That is the reason why I created this thread to begin with. I wanted to see if I was in the minority in my beliefs. There have been a few good points made here. I don't know what would/wouldn't hold up in cou...

Re: Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
I'm the guy. I do retain the carcass, and it is not a waste. It is being used for human consumption. It is feeding my vegetable garden that produces food for my family. But also note, I don't intentionally target chum. In fact I try to avoid them because they get in the way of my Coho hunting. Have...

Re: need a kokanee expert
There are a few local lakes where you can still catch kokanee, although they are spawning out and dying quickly. Try small pink jigs just above the bottom after marking them on your sonar. I have caught more this way than trolling.

Re: Tapioca disease?
You can always add a crumble of fresh Mozzarella, blue or cottage cheese on top of the fillet. I know it won't work with all recipes but it should make it pretty hard to tell what is the pussy stuff vs cheese. Not sure I have ever done a cheesy salmon ... could be kinda good. no probably not but it...

Salmon for fertilizer? or just eggs?
I won't name names but I have seen several comments lately about keeping chum or boot coho for garden fertilizer. Alternatively I have seen and heard more than a few people talk about just keeping a fish for the eggs. Sometimes it is hard to sense sarcasm over the internet so I will give them the be...

Re: Tapioca disease?
Strange, I have never seen it in a chinook.. but many times in coho. It seems to affect wild and hatchery fish. From my observations, fish caught in the rivers of Puget Sound have had it much more than fish from Gray's harbor or the coast. I have never found a coastal fish with it. Also, I have neve...

Re: Anyone else had a horrible Coho season?
It has been a pretty decent season for me and those I fish with. Kings were hard to come by and I had to venture south to find them. We never got on them in Puget Sound before MA9 and 10 were closed. Coho on the other hand has been pretty good. Maybe not quite as good as last year.. not as many limi...
