Dumb steelhead question
I understand that steelhead are the same family as rainbow trout. Just wondering how I will know if I catch one. Last year, we caught some rainbow trout in a lake in Skagit county. When we cooked them, 3 had the same kind of flesh and 1 was very pink, like a salmon, and it was bigger too. At the tim...

"But when I get a 15# chrome hen legally, on a 4' leader its not going back in because, maybe the fish was at the wrong place at the wrong time and my line just happened to go in the fishes mouth even though the fish wasn't hungry.... sounds kind of silly doesn't it?" LOL - I think you should ask th...

RE:Flossing or Not
As a guest in your state, and coming from Southern Cali, where there are no salmon, you can take my opinion with a grain of salt. This is the first time I've ever caught any salmon, so the term "flossing" was very new to me. I think I finally understand the concept. However I have a hard time believ...

Let's not get all upset, boys. Curado has really helped me with places, techniques, and encouragement. Settle down.

Goin to the river, gonna catch a Coho.....
The only question is what river, and how to catch one? I've caught more than my share of humpies, and am becoming OBSESSED with catching a Silver. Online they say that the best chance is with lil corkies and yarn, so studied up today on how to tie an egg-knot for the best presentation. In fact, I ti...

Question about salmon tags
My son and I went up where the salmon are spawning on the Stilly today. It was a bittersweet experience - thousands of fish spawning, torn up and bedraggled, dead and dying. Anyway, we saw a smaller dead salmon with a bright yellow tag with numbers. The tag was in the salmon's mouth. Does anyone kno...

I'll try that, noclothes1. Sounds good. What is the vitamin in salmons? Omega something or other? Had plenty of that. Ate them fried, broiled, poached, grilled, baked and smoked. Had salmon cakes, ceviche, salmon hash with potatoes and eggs in the morning, and salmon sandwiches. Also canned some. Ho...

Not quite done with pinks - though catching and releasing more. Never thought I could get my fill of first, crab, and then, salmon. It has been a wonderful year.

Apparently not. The thing is, I'm hesitant to get into an argument. I was respectful and polite during the discusssion. And they weren't the only ones. It seems that this spot attracts alot of the "beer for breakfast" crowd. Nothing against beer drinkers, but no sense getting confrontational.

RE:Let's go snagging!
I had a discussion about the fishing regs on that part of the Stilly - there was quite a bit of disagreement about the rules - in fact the guys next to us said they just read the regs and that fishing with sand shrimp was legal - even offered to go up to his truck and get the book. Usually I have my...

Last night my son caught one and my neighbor's wife caught one out of the Skagit north fork. One was caught on sand shrimp, and the other on a shiny lure.

RE:Where do I need to go to catch them?
Zip on over to the sandbar at Skagit River Park in Burlington. Can't miss, especially early in the AM. Use sand shrimp and winged spinners, dark green with orange on the ends. You will need rather heavy weights - more than 2 ounces. Oh, and get that spider line in a tube to secure the sand shrimp to...

LOL, California is broke too. I'm heading out NOW to fish, and promise you that I will see 50 violations of the rules. At $150. a pop, that would be $7500. just today. Maybe I should be deputized.

RE:Puyallup Closes To Sport Fishing...
I'm from out of state (California) and have never fished for salmon except for the last 3 weeks, so please excuse my ignorance. That being said, I'm wondering why there are not more wardens giving out tickets. I've been fishing every day on the Skagit and the Stilly and have yet to see a warden. Hav...

RE:Question about fish and game ticket!
I gotta agree with Dave. And I'm always happy to see the warden's checking. Maybe because I'm from southern Cali, where there are no salmon. We get some fresh fillets flown in once a year and they cost $12.00 for a tiny piece. You in the PNW are blessed by nature to have such wonderful fishing, and ...

The water was clear in the Skagit and Stillaguamish last night, with lots of pinks being caught. There are tons of fish. Good luck everyone.

RE:Corky and yarn color does it make a difference in highly dirty water?
I'm no expert, but my son was fishing on the Skagit yesterday and it was very dirty. He didn't catch anything, but the guy next to him caught his limit, and was using some kind of liquid scent - so if the fish can't see good, they can smell.
