Re: Northern Pike caught in Lake Washington
The Pike have all but wiped out a number of Alaskan salmon runs. None of the huge ones but some of the smaller systems, they eat everything going by. I can't remember any names off the top of my head but I saw a show sponsored by one of the conservation clubs a couple years ago. Of course they were...

Re: Palouse river catfish
A semi-secret I have for cats is the bait. I use Mormon Crickets before they spray for them. They sprawl out when hooked and they have large amounts of grasshopper black goop stuff that seeps out of their mouths that the catfish love. I haven't looked for this year to see if they sprayed for them bu...

Re: Good news for the columbia
His numbers are off on the springers- he claims 296,000 came back last year when it was 233,000 including jacks. 300,000 plus were predicted in 2015 and then they dropped their guess to below that.
Point being that the springer numbers declined and they are always a stab in the dark to predict.

Re: ringold steelhead
riverhunter: you can still catch fish here until the March 31st date. MOST the time, these are punky fish that are hanging out infront of the hatchery. I've used goober-jigs and plain jigs with shrimp and caught these late fish. Its REALLY a fun fishery for catch and release. However, I've seen some...

Re: McNary Dam...Which side to fish? Above? Below?
I notice a lot of people don't talk much about McNary Dam on this sight. Sorry for the late reply: I've fished McNary since I was a little kid. The best spots are the Oregon side launch, Washington red buoy, and Washington pump house. 75% of my marks are from those three spots. Bobbers seems to be t...

Re: Catfish on the Yakima
tluedeke, From past experience trying to catch springers, I wanted to let you know that I DO catch catfish from time to time with my salmon rig. Relatively speaking in that area, I have hooked on some BIG and I mean BIG cats on a herring with corkies and smile blade. I thought I would have a springe...

Re: Boiling Crabs
At the coastal boat rental in Oregon, sounds like they do what most others are doing (they boil them whole for you and chill them after for immediate cleaning). The owner also finds the 'heart' and dips it in the 'crab butter'-- sounds, delicious. Without eating the gut goulash, the meat is really g...

Re: Lingcod
I was at NB and saw a guy cleaning one that was almost pure blue from its belly to it's meat inside. How is that? Diet would be my guess but scientific explanation would be awesome.

Toxic Red Algae?
Before I make a 12 hour trip for a week long stay, what's going on with this "toxic red algae"?? I hear the water is brown and the only place to catch Chinook are way off Tatoosh. Comrades, someone local or recent or intelligence on the topic please help. I plan on going Tuesday thru the weekend but...
