RE:Drift Fishing for Steelhead
So take it for what it is- PM me next time instead of calling me out.. Deal.... Sorry for raggin on ya man, but I was kinda feelin the same way. It seemed like I was catchin alot of flack over nothing. And you're right, it is hard to tell sarcasm sometimes, my bad. I was simply trying to convey tha...

RE:Drift Fishing for Steelhead
"Bobbers Rule Guys?" What the? Snobby elitist? Is there a dead horse around? 10ft leader and 3/0 hook? Use a size 4 hook and 12 ft leader. You'll get em in the mouth every time. Legal. I very specifically said that I do NOT approve of that, I was simply using it as a reference and I made that very ...

RE:Drift Fishing for Steelhead
It really doesn't matter what type of fishing method you prefer as long as you show some sportsmanship and the fish is legally hooked. I drift fish probably 60-70% of the time because I usually target salmon and I rarely fish pools of water that are bobber friendy. I do use a bobber when the conditi...

RE:squidding 2010?!
I have tried a few places and I am a firm believer in squidding at ferry docks. It only makes sense due to the large lights. I usually go out in a small boat and drop anchor just away from where the rest of the squidders are at. I have NEVER been skunked @ Steilacoom and last year was pretty awesome...

RE:To fish or not to fish? Cowlitz flows this weekend???
Oh ya, Freddy V: Like I said I'm not exactly an expert on the steelies, but I know from experience with salmon that noth Blue Creek and Barrier can be very productive, but everyone else know that too, so expect some company. From what I hear blue creek is where the steelhead are returning to, so you...

RE:To fish or not to fish? Cowlitz flows this weekend???
I am suppose to be there first thing Sunday morning. The Cowlitz is fishable into the 13,000's, I knowI have been on it in the summer or spring when they were letting a lot of water out of the dam. My concern would be for logs in the water floating down. As for fish it would turn off the bite if th...

RE:To fish or not to fish? Cowlitz flows this weekend???
I'm going out on the first trip Sunday morning. I just got back into the state a couple months ago, and I'm hopin this trip will end with my first steel. I've been slayin the salmon around here for a couple years now, but I've never really tried for the steelhead. Are you going out there too Tony? I...

To fish or not to fish? Cowlitz flows this weekend???
I managed to get myself into a free chartered steelhead trip this weekend @ Blue Creek, but it's only gonna be for 2-3 hours in the morning. I live kinda far away to make the drive for only 2-3 hours if there's no chance of catchin somethin due to the river bein blown out. If I go I plan on bankin i...

I'm obviously a little late on this one, but I'm thinking about booking a trip for myself and wondered who you went through and how you did

RE:It's a Party?
I've been on charters out of Westport and Ilwaco and that is how it has always been for me. I never gave it much thought and just kinda figured it was for commercial/charters only, but now that it's brought up I guess it makes sense to ask before you get a ticket in your own boat...

RE:netting for dummies
The nicest King I ever hooked into was lost due to a buddy that didnt't know how to net (or fish for that matter) He tried tail first and spooked the fish, but I was able to keep it on and yell at him. So the next time he listened when I told him to quickly go at it head first, but he kinda chopped ...

Yup, went out last weekend to Steilacoom. I didn't do great, but I got 14 in about 2.5 hours.

Boat launch near 101 bridge/Ilwaco????
I was wondering if anyone knew of a boat launch near the 101 bridge on the Columbia. I plan on going for sturgeon, but I don't want to make the run from Ilwaco up to the bridge.

RE:Nice Quality 2-Piece Casting Rod?
I'm with GPC on the shimano. I bought a Shimano Clarus casting rod last year and it's the best rod I have ever owned and it only cost me 99 bucks. You should look into one. As far as the reel goes, in my opinion you can never go wrong with an Abu Garcia C4.

RE:The "C" Word...carp
I have fished for them MANY times, including @ Bradley Lake and have used the corn method like everyone else said, but also dough works GREAT! Not just some old mushy bread, but go buy one of the cheapo cans of biscuit dough ( the ones that "pop" open when you peel them back) then twist it onto your...

RE:Just bought braid for the first time.... What are your thoughts?
I'll fish for anything that swims, and I always have 3 or 4 different rigs set up for 3 or 4 different types of fishing, but I spend the majority of my time drift fishing the Pierce/Thurston county rivers. Right now I only have the braid on a spinning reel, just so I can get a good feel for if I wan...

If it was me I'd go to Ilwaco. Huge Sturgeon, Salmon and Steelies are all possible in the Buoy 10 area.....

RE:Just bought braid for the first time.... What are your thoughts?
I have already rigged it with a mono leader, and also about 30 yds of mono backing to keep it from free spinning on the spool if I get low. As far as the Kennedy Creek combat scene goes, I just said the crowded fishing part cuz I know that alot of guys get pissed when their mono gets cut by the brai...

WAVE Reel
Has anyone used these? If not you should look into them. I thought that it might just be a cool looking reel that didn't really have any advantages, but I gotta say that it was a well spent hundred bucks for sure!!
