Favorite fishing line?

When it comes down to drift fishing in rivers whats your favorite line to spool your reel? Weather it be bait casting reels or spinning. What lines have you tried that you hate?

P-Line makes a great line. I find it's very strong with low strectch and low memory.

Why? I use the P-line Floroclear and have never had any issues with it. I also like Suffix Elite.

I like using Maxima Chameleon or Ultragreen. Haven't tried many others due to the fact that I've never had issues with the Maxima, but I do know that I don't like Stren. One of these days I may try a braided/fused line for side drifting.

P-Line = Maxima is always good, I've been using Treasure Z and really like it. For braid, I like TufLine, The others I've tried shed stuff.

everytime me or any of my fishing buddies have spooled p line it either shoots off the reel right away or backlashes and tangles 5 casts into the trip
maxima is my favorite as of now

I will never fish with braid. WAY to visible. I always just go with mono. Its cheap and easy to use.

Yeah def dont go p-line, especially on a bait cast. I have been using 15lb trilene big game on my baitcast and like it way better, seems to be a good line so far and feels lighter and thinner than the p-line, although it is the same lb test.

I've never really had a problem with pline, but I prefer to use maxima 15 lb. I'm spooled up with pline right now but that's just because they were out of the other stuff and I needed it at the time. I also like to use 15 lb trilene big game cuz it's cheap and easy.

I second the Berkely big game. Been fishing it for about 4 years with no complaints. I switched to that after i couldnt find Ande Tournament anymore...still my favorite line, but a tough one to find.

Trilene big game 10lb test, i usually wont use anything more than 12lb extra strength, depends on the drift and the river!

For braid, PowerPro all the way . I have used Tuftline, but wasn't impressed with it . And for those who are thinking about using the P-line Hydrofloat, I think goin_postal can give you his 2cents on that one :bom: . He wasn't too happy with it last weekend. :cyclopsan

P-Line Halo Fluoro 4-6lb for dropshoting :2 reels
P-Line 100% Fluoro 12-15lb For Carolina rigging and SB's : 2reels

Power Pro 50lb test for Frogging (also for flipping & Pitching matched with a Fluoro Leader ) :2 reels

P-Line has never let me down , Been using it for over 12 years now !!

i will never use calcutta line. ever again..... prety much all i use is trilene or spiderwire. 10lb at most.. mainly just 8lb for lakes on my spinning rod. for my baitcaster i use trilene 12-15lb. in rivers i will use 8-15lb. :bom:

I use 20lb powerpro braid, or spiderwire stealth moss green for main and maxima chemeleon leader. I know someone said about braid being too visible. But really have you tried to look at braid underwater? Above water it floats making it easy to see but also if your float fishing you want to have your line more visible so you can mend it properly. The 20lb test has a 6 lb test diameter, and the colors are designed to be in spectrum ranges not easily seen by fish. I dont really understand how hes basing facts about the visibilities of braid. Maybe it is in his opinion that it could be too visible? That could be. I use it on all my river rods. Baitcast or spin and I do prefer baitcast. It has no zero notta memory. Tie it in a knot and untie it, nothing there. Do that with mono flouro or whatever and it is more then likely not the case. And as long as its just a little rats nest on your spool it is hella easy to undo. That being said I like braid.

I will never fish with braid. WAY to visible. I always just go with mono. Its cheap and easy to use.

The steelhead really don't seem to mind.

On my first trip ever, I was using 30lb hi vis yellow powerpro braid, with about 24" of mono leader. I got the guidance for this setup at the Steelhead University seminar a few months prior to using it.

Landed a 32" and 28.5" on my first trip.


With 30lb braid and 20lb mono, I lost 2 jigs the whole trip. Most snags were on the bottom or a result of my terrible casting into low lying branches when trying to hit a fishy looking area, and with all but the two I previously mentioned, I was able to retrieve my whole rig (sometimes having to straighten the hook and replace my nightcrawler) and continue fishing.

suffix elite in clear or green only. it is more abasion resistant than pline and is supple enough to cast and not backlash on my curado.
