I guess I'll try sulfites for steelies if the river turns muddy. I've only caught one steely on a sulfite cure, and that was when the Cascade was high and muddy.fishenfreak wrote:Steelhead with eat sulfites in certain river systems at certain times, it just takes a lot of fishing and experimenting to figure it out. A general rule i have figured out is clearer river systems, the steelies seem to stay away from sulfite, most likely because in clear water those bright cured eggs just look unnatural. Of course steel anywhere if hungry enough will take it, but ive found skagit river fish (cascade included) is not a sulfite system because it usually runs clear. Nor is the sky a good sulfite river. I have had GREAT luck on the hoh on sulfite and i think its because it always runs milky colored from the clay banks. Cowlitz steelheas are also VERY fond of sulfite. Just depends what and where your fishing but thats a general rule ive come to conclude, of course theres exceptions

Re: Coho Madness!!
although fishing was tough with the high water today, still managed a decent day, landed 10 coho, released 5 and killed 4 chromer hens and a big dark buck for the smoker, eggs in the dirty water is the way to go

Re: Coho Madness!!
Yea i think its a combination because last yr we fished a drift in the upper with huge clay banks on the opposite side and the minute It started to sprinkle the river on the other side turn super clay colored and my side was still pretty clear the clay does have an effect but because of the fact that it still runs that color when it's no rain the mountain has something to do with it also!Metal wrote:Hey Freak the hoh runs glacial colored because it comes off Mt. Olympus. Not because of the clay banks

through november I have caught decent ones on the last weekend of salmon fishing up there but most will have mushy meat though.
