I'm trying to figure out how that work is rigged and fished....do you rig it upside down (usually the hook is trailing the tail) and boober dog it?

Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
There is 2 main reasons we rig our worms backwards like that... First is that when the worm is rigged the original way, the tail always gets caught up and hooked on the hook, and its a pain to keep it fishing correctly. Secondly, with the worm rigged backwards and the cheater between the worm and the hook, snags and hooksets wont rip the worm over the hook and ruin the setup. You rig the worm up the same way, have the line coming out about 1.5 inches or so from the tail, just upside down as shown. And yes we bobberdog them usuallybkawafishin wrote:I'm trying to figure out how that work is rigged and fished....do you rig it upside down (usually the hook is trailing the tail) and boober dog it?

Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
Well I don't have a pic, but they say you'll never forget your first steel, and I concur. Landed my first steel on Saturday. Beautiful chrome hatchery fish...probably 9-10 lbs....and I had to release it. Was running the backwards pink worm with the hook trailing. Felt the tap, tap, tap, set the hook and had a hell of a fight. Got her in the net and wouldn't you know it, the hook got her near the pectoral fin.
I think I'm cursed as far as steelhead go.

Well then if it's far from the hoh, you're fishing BC. Because everything that is open is close to the Hoh. LOL. Are you licensed to guide up there? If so, I should book a trip, I've never fished up there.fishenfreak wrote:natetreat wrote:The hoh is being nice to you Danny! Be nice to those fish, I would hate to lose them.

Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
Dang! thats unfortunate, the fish must have bitten the other end of the worm, and the hook caught here there when you set the hook. At least you got to fight one!mizm05 wrote:Well I don't have a pic, but they say you'll never forget your first steel, and I concur. Landed my first steel on Saturday. Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
You know that you're not keeping anything secret. It's either the Bogey, Duc, Hoh or Queets. or the Clearwater or Dickey. Since you're keeping it "secret" I assume it's one of the lesser known rivers. It doesn't look white water enough to be the Calawah, so I'm going to guess clearwater. I'm gonna find out where it is eventually. If people post an anonymous picture, I take it as a challenge to find out where it is.

Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
People like me post anonymous pictures so the entire internet doesnt read it and go flooding to the river to fish it after seeing a photo of a 20 pound steelhead. Wasnt your goal of not fishing the coast to take the pressure off the wild fish? Now how would revealing the river help that cause? Seems kinda hypocritical to me. But Your right, im not keeping any secrets, Its either the Humptulips. Upper Quinault. Queets. Clearwater. Hoh. Bogachiel. Calawah. Or Sol Duc. Have fun guessing!natetreat wrote:You know that you're not keeping anything secret. It's either the Bogey, Duc, Hoh or Queets. or the Clearwater or Dickey. No, my reason for not fishing the coast is because I think it is wrong to profit off a diminishing resource. I think it is irresponsible for us guides to sit back and do nothing while they dwindle away to nothing.fishenfreak wrote:People like me post anonymous pictures so the entire internet doesnt read it and go flooding to the river to fish it after seeing a photo of a 20 pound steelhead. Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
Well you could say im doing my part by not whoring out river information so that everyone and his brother can go beat up on the wild fish. Too many fisherman now days to be doing that is allnatetreat wrote:No, my reason for not fishing the coast is because I think it is wrong to profit off a diminishing resource. Re: Winter Steelhead 2013/2014
Yea so its "irresponsible" for one guide to run trips on the coast, but not irresposible for a guide to post river names and locations all over the internet potentially tripling the pressure on wild fish? Hmm. Logic not understood. Keep on guessing. I mean theres only 8 more rivers to guess fromnatetreat wrote:It's the Clearwater.
