Fish in the Elwha?

Post by donman » Mon Jan 03, 2011 5:16 pm

Anyone ever fished the Elwha with any success? If so where are some spots? I fished under neath the 2 lane bridge last year with no luck. I know that F&W are talking about closing the river down this year to any kind of fishing because they are going to start tearing down that dam. But before they do I'd like to try it our for some Winter Steel.

yeah give me a call Don There are fish in the hatchery has gotten 600 fish in the last week when the rain was in.

If you are going to fish the deeper hole under the bridge I would bust out the side planer and some plugs. talked to a few guys fishing there Sunday and they say that is the best watt to catch them in that area. They said he seen some people catch them on spoons too out of the hole. There are a few hole below the hatchery if you cross the creek. The rain at the end of the week should push some more in I would think.

The bogie is dead from what I heard and the Sol's run is showing.

Scott's got it right on the money. If that doesn't work go to the mouth and toss eggs just up from the tribe's feeder stream. In years past I've done well on the steelies but its really hit and miss.

yeah that is what I was told as well....the spot by the mouth is easy to get to...well at least on the cliff side. not sure how or where to access the other side from.

I didn't have any eggs to toss but that is what the locals said as well.

Thanks again for the help Doug
