How close are the Pinks?

I regularly check on the reports for the salt water on various sites, but the pinks don't seem to be to awfully close to the mouth of the Snohomish yet, as far as big schools are concerned. I was wondering if any of you have noticed any schools moving through the river. My brother was out Sturgeon fishing last weekend with his son and only saw one Sturgeon roll, but no Humpies. I know the run usually doesn't enter the Snohomish until roughly mid August, but my birthday is on the 16th which is opening day on the Snohomish and my brother along with a few friends and I are going to possibly camp out on the river Friday and Saturday night and fish during the day to celebrate the B-day. I am just hoping that the fish are in at least the lower river enough to have a decent day by opener. I have read on another site that the some humpies are already up to the lower Skykomish River. If so that was an early spurt of fish, but can anyone confirm the whereabouts of the main run as of now?

Well first things first, we will be staying on a sand bar just down river of Snohomish (on the bar using a boat). And if the main run is on the east side of Whidbey Island than it should deffinately be here by the opener. But by my predictions then the MAIN run is further out, and won't be hear until early September this year. Any observations are welcome though, so please report.

That's typicaly the case. the peak of the run should be the first, second week of Sept. That's just from a historical persective. Who know what goes anymore. I can tell you Humpy Hollow is producing and a buddie that lives in Mukelteo has been catching them off the beach along with some nice Coho too.

The last day the green was open we saw a bunch of pinks already that far up. The diagonal park on the duwamish, I saw some jumpers. Spokane street bridge is completly slammed w/ pinks and what looked like kings. My buddy caught one between Des Miones and Redondo. We also saw a bunch of schools right up on top from the depth finder, and some jumpers, not to mention the 4 or 5 that swam right past the boat. Dash point was slammed w/ boats, but we didnt make it that far. I was checking the creel surveys and last week off the dash point pier there was 69 anglers and they caught 60 pinks. I on the other hand have fished area 10 area 11 and the green river, probably a total of 12 times for them pinks................. still fishless LOL. But I can feel it any day now LOL.

They aren't that thick in the saltwater yet. They are still thick as heck in Sekiu though and they are starting to show up more on the WEST side of Whidbey Island. There are a lot of guys fishing for them at Humpy Hollow, big waste. Go fish farther north like the Possession Bar or Point no Point and they are in thicker there and you get a shot at silvers as well....

I also had some eggs in a few pinks. I kept them and used borax (I think thats what it was called) to cure them. I also have some stuff that is made for curring eggs. How do you cure your eggs? I have never used eggs like this before, but I went out and got some mesh and twine for the eggs. Is this how you put your eggs on the hook? Also what do you catch with the eggs? I have heard that the eggs from the pinks work really well for silvers. Sorry to overload you with questions lol

First wash them in 100% brine solution, to get any blood out, should be stirred gently about 15 minutes. Then pat them dry. I always just packed them in Borax after that. Some people like to add a little salt and or sugar. Color?????? well that's up to you. I'm sure others do it different but.....
I might head back out tomorrow if it's not raining too hard. It was fun drifting the little spoons. Good practice for real fishing.

sorry missed part. Leave the eggs in the skeine and they'll get quite tough. then to bait with them just pull off a hunk the size you want. The hook (s) should be snell tied then you can just push the line back down through the eye in the hook and make a loop. bury the hook in the roe and wrap it with the line. I like using them for Steelhead but you can use small chunks for just about anything. Mackinaw's like them too, German Browns...... any of the larger salmonid's. King salmon like them too. Never caught any Coho with them but then I've never tried.

gpc where you been going out for Pinks? we should go hit up the Snohomish river for some soon, I just got back from a scouting trip more then anything and found some good spots to hit some fish on...Lemme know..

Not too much scouting needed. They're all over from the mouth to the confluence. My neighbor's been on the lower half and I on the upper. fish look the same and we've been on and off the water in about two hours with the touring and all. Maybe an hour of fishing total.

I went down to the Langus River park (about a mile from the mouth) and couldn't get a hit throwing tiny buzzbombs or hootchie jigs or Pink Spoons....

Went to our secret humpy hole on the Sno system to camp out of the boats and spanked them. Five guys, 2 boats, 2 days, over 100 Pinks caught and released. Yes, you are reading that right, one hundred pinks. I also got one bright 14 lb king C&R'ed of course. Thank god for secret holes!

A pontoon boat in the Snohomish could be tricky. There are lots of power boats and jetsleds that create quite a wake. The Sky above Lewis Street bridge opens up soon (Sept 1 I think) and there are already pinks aa high up as Sultan.

A good float on the river right now is to put in at Lewis Street bridge on the Sky and float down to 522 or even to Crab Bar/Thomas's Eddy. Be careful though because the lower Sky just above the mouth can be a little tricky this time of year even to an experienced oarsman. If you wanted to stay on the Snohomish the whole time though you could put in at 522 or Crab Bar and float down to Snohomish. If you do this float expect to do a lot of rowing because it is mostly in tide water, so plan your tides right and this can be a productive area though. And yes there are so fish in the Sky.
