Can anyone tell me...

...if there is a spot on the Puyallup between the mouth and Fred Meyers aprox. that is easy access with little to no hike up/down a trail? A sandbar or shoreline would be necessarily as well. My Papa would like to go with us next week and had a stroke just a few years ago so he can't climb or do any sort of incline/slippery trail and I've only been to Fred Meyers, 5th street bridge, and soccer fields. Thanks!

I am not aware of any place that will meet your needs in that area. There is a place on the upper river between Sumner and Orting off of highway 162. It's the 116th street hole. You turn left (east) off of highway 162 on 115th (easy to miss it's in a curve). The road zig zags then goes straight back to the river. It's about 1/2 mile off the highway. You can drive out onto the gravel bar and to within 25 feet of the river. Trucks have no problem. Cars go out also just pick your path before going out and go slow. I have had my Rave 4 out on it with no problem. There are not as many fish in this area but your casts are much shorter and you are close to the water. Some people even fish from lawn chairs. Use the same set ups as in the lower river. The bottom is more grabby here so expect to loose some gear. There is a small stream that enters on the far side of the river. One of the best drifts is to cast into the upriver side of the stream mouth and drift your line down the color seam past the log barried in the far bank as close to shore as you can.

Thank you very much! As thick as the fish are in the soccer fields end, I'm not worried about there being not 'as many' fish up there lol I really just want to spend the day with my papa so I'll be mapping this out for sure!

Sumner waste treatment plant (just upriver from Stuck River mouth) isn't to bad. But you might want to think about the round rocks if he is balance challenged. I am so I have just about given up on rivers.
One thing at the treatment plant you could bring a folding chair.
