Northwest Fishing Reports

anybody been venturing out onto long lake lately? i had a buddy get stuck on a sandbar this spring, i'm not going near the place (at least the 9-mile end) until i've heard from some folks who've successfully navigated it.

if you have been on it, what were you fishing for and how'd you do?

Water levels are up. If you launch at the state park at 9 mile stay within the channel markers and you should be fine. Bass/perch/trout and a ton of squawfish

Not sure why you posted this in river fishing but i digress, Long Lake is a phenominal lake. Large Mouths are on beds right now as we speak. You just missed the best smallie fishing ever!!#-o Small Mouths are now out in a little deeper water but try shaded rocky areas. Large Mouths are on structure and nests. The North side warms the fastest but they will not be on beds until around 10 or 11 a.m. Fish smallie's in the a.m. Topwater action early should be great with warmer temps on the way. PM me for further info if you want. Go look at my report for memorial day weekend on Long Lake.

I might be wrong....... but I think he posted the topic under the river section because long lake is a Spokane river impoundment :thumright

gpc: Long Lake is a Lake hence the name "Long Lake" All maps show it as Long Lake, an impoundment is also a "Lake", any body of water that has a dam at the lee side either man made or natural is constituted a lake, so thanks for playing. See I knew that you knew the answer to your own question. But I guess there is no such thing as a stupid question . But we shouldn't harp on this subject for too long, because aaron will delete the whole subject. And that's not fair to Trout Cowboy. But remember just because it is called something doesnt mean it is that, I know of plenty of ponds that are bigger than lakes, and streams that are bigger than rivers and so on. Dam or no dam its still a part of the Spokane river. Just like Rufus woods and the Columbia. But you already knew that:thumright

There is no way I would be fishing the Columbia River and refer to it as fishing on the lake. That would be silly.

I appologize to ya troutcowboy, I didn't know that some people on here were so touchy feely. I actually gave some insight on the lake but other people decided to dwell on what to call a damed river instead of addressing you main topic and again I appologize for that and I hope the others can grow up and do the same.

my bad, fish4brains, i shoulda acknowledged you as the only person with some decent feedback and minus all the witty but useless debate.

we're basically neighbors (liberty lake & post falls), maybe we'll bump into each other one on the water one of these days. in fact i picked up an ID license a few weeks ago and if you're in the know i'd like to pick your brains on fishing lake cd'a too.

again, thanks for the feedback. the rest of you? you can kiss my bass. i'm joking -- i'm as big a culprit as anyone with the jokes.

Long has been exceptional all spring. Smallies were nuts early, there was a 2 week spree of crappie fishing where we were averaging 6 and hr between 12 and 16 inches. When that slowed down it was time to kill some squawfish (we are working on a squawfish reduction program).

Didnt someone catch a rather large pike out of long lake not too long ago?

lots of 10-15 lb pike come out, but the record I think is still held 2 houses down from mine, 34 lbs.
