Did Some Scouting On The Green

Was a nice day yesterday (Tues), decided to take the bike out.

Started off at the Kent golf course and headed north on the Green Trail. Doh, should have brought my pole with me.... Forgot my sunglasses too.#-o

Anyways, wow there's a lot of fish in the river. I started at about ~1:30PM. I saw a few fishermen but not many. Plenty of open spots to fish easily. Fish was pretty much everywhere. I get close to the bridge that crosses the river to get to Costco. Saw a handful of people fishing. Finally saw someone handle a fish. Didnt see the actual catch, but saw the fish out of the on the bank. I think it was a pink.

Kept going, got all the way to the cross bridge by Family Fun Center and holy cow there was a HUGE school. Half the river was full of fish and I was watching for about 5 mins. Still coming.

Continued north and the trail ended for me. Right in front of some casino. Riverside Casino I think so I turned back around. I stopped by the cross bridge again to look and sure enough, the school is still heading up stream!

On my way back, I noticed a lot more fishermen. The area just south of Costco had about doubled the people, but still plenty of open areas.

Under the bridge at the golf course, had about 10 people by the time I got back. When I first started, there were only 2 or 3. Got back at about ~4:30PM

My bum sure hurts today. :-"

I was over there tonight around 5pm with my brother behind that Wells Fargo training center. There were definitely fish there, but they didn't seem to want to bite. We only managed to hook and land one on a pink jig. We tried drifting fishing but no dice.

I did a lot of scouting and some fishing too. You can see large school swim up stream all the time. A silver or king might jump at times. It seems like they are really focused on moving upstream and they have lock jaw.

I have been riding my bike and let me tell you the green was made for bike fishing. You can cover alot of ground and always find a decent spot since the trail goes all through kent and renton. The only problem is if you want to keep something you have to carry the fish somehow. Thanks for the info FishingFool.

WOOT, the GF caught her 1st salmon today. Me.... well, I'm still waiting for it.:-&

We fished directly under the I-405 bridge. I didnt see as many fish as my scouting day, but you'll see a small school come through once in a while. We did spot a HUGE fish in 1 of the schools. It was a redish orange silver color. I'm assuming it's a large King? It was easily 2 to 3 times larger than the other fish in the school.

Anyways, GF caught her fish within the first 15 mins. She had on a pink rooster tail with 4lb test. I told her to change out her spool, but she didnt listen. Anyways, I'm just casting away when she shouts, "I GOT 1!!!!!" Image

I tell her to be careful with it. She tries her best, the fish is now dragging downstream. I work my way down the rocks as far as I can with the net. After about a few mins, the fish starts to get tired but she cant reel it in. Her line got wrapped around something perpendicular to the river and the fish was downstream from it! After about 5 mins of her trying to get it to break loose from whatever was holding it, I told her looks like we'll just have to try to snap the line. :-"
So she gives it to me to try to snap it. I pull and all of a sudden, the line snapped and went slacked. Then WHAM! Fish still ON!!! Line didnt snap, it broke from from whatever it was snagged on. So I gave her the pole back. After a few more mins of playing with the fish, finally got it in the net.

It turns out, it was a foul hook. Caught it right in front of the hump. The GF went to try to release it but uhhh yeah.

So I reached in and revived it. It rested close by for a good 15 mins before finally making it's way upstream again.

After about 1 and a half hours of fishing, I gave up. We did stop by the golf course to check up on the people under the bridge. They didnt seem to do any better. Only saw a couple of fish here and there swimming around.

I was doing a job near the 1st south bridge and saw many many nets.I was watching them unload to their trucks and driving off. Most fish were dark from what I saw. Mostly all were humpies. But the nets are in and in hard.

YAY! Caught my 1st salmon ever today!!!!!

I decided to head down to the Green again to give it another shot. This time, I'm further upstream. Right by the Auburn Golf Course at some little park. Walked off the walking path and found a spot to myself.

It's about 1:30PM or so. I wanted to give my buzzbombs a shot, but I couldnt find them in my tackle box. I swore I brought them.#-o

So I started throwing all my spinners. I see plenty of fish. I eventually get to an orange Blue Fox I believe with an orange and black stripe blade. Whoa, was that a bite??!?! Missed. Reel it in and I see a fish follow and bite again! Missed! Yippy, first confirmed bite. Kept throwing that spinner, and got a couple more bites, but that's it.

So I put on an orange/silver kastmaster and started throwing that around for a few mins. FISH ON!!!! I see it jump and then slack line. #-o BAH!

Keep throwing the same spoon and FISH ON!!! ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZz goes the drag. Whooops, my drag is set for my usual 4lb line. Tighten that baby down and here comes the fish. Oh man I see it! It's a big pink with a huge dome! Close to 24" if not over. I get it close and reach for my net. BAH!!!! I need another pair of hands to help me net. Working the fish closer and BOINNGG! Fish is gone.#-o

I continue throwing the spoon and FISH ON again! This time, I was able to net it. Wasnt as big as the last 1, measured to about 22". The fish was in the net and on the bank. I reached for my camera when the fish flopped into the water with the net! I quickly grab the net and the fish got loose. Off it swam again.:-({|=

Still throwing the same spoon, I eventually caught another 1 and was able to take a pic of it. Measured to 22". Looks a little green to me. I thought I was going to give it to my mother, but I'm not to so sure now. Almost lost this one too. As soon as I got it into the net, the hook came off.:batman:
Image

Wasnt getting any more bites after 4PM, so I switched to an orange corky setup. Whoa I got a fish! I set the hook and SNAP! I see a fish jump where my rig was at. Bad line...:-&

Saw lots of fish swimming by. A few big schools heading up and down the stream. Crazy how you can feel them bump into your line or lures.

Almost lost my trusty lure a few times to those trees overhead....:-"

Congrats on your first salmon. They change to that greenish color when they are in the rivers. They are still edible. Most people just smoke them.
