Merwin
For the second time this year I seen the Russian spear gunners having a good time at Merwin. For the second time I informed the officials. I know Merwin probably better than anyone for the number of times I have fished it. There is a lack of big fish this year that one sees in the shallows. Im talking about 48 & 49 inchers. Could it be possible that these poachers have gotten away with this all year? I dogged these guys for two hours today and they are very famillar with all the good Muskie haunts. I got in their face but they are arrogant and safe. With a lack of sufficent law enforcement and a lack of real evidence these guys will continue.

Re: Merwin
Hi Ed,
Me and a couple of my buddies ran across these guys about a month ago. I have pics and forwarded them to Jake of the sw region and Bruce B. Pics of the boat. And of one of the guys looking directly at me as i took the photo. Only pic I didnt get was of the speargun. They did have one. All 3 of us saw it come out of the water. Speargun fishing is ILLEGAL in freshwater!
The boat # is WN 5972 RL. 18 to 20 ft long. Its an inboard out board, V-hull, Split glass dual console vessel. A walk through is what it looks like. White with a red stripe that runs from the rear of the boat to the front of the keel just below the gunnel. About a 6-8 inch tall stripe. It looks similar to a Reinell ski boat. It also had a kicker motor on the back end right side. Dark in color. They also had a fishing rod that was standing straight up loaded with what possibly was a koke rig for looks at the time we saw it. Didnt look like it was going to be used for fishing at all.
Like Ed said they are of middle European/Russian descent. Big guys. One of them had dirty blonde hair. So please folks report these guys when you see the boat. THEY ARE POACHERS, period! Lets get these freekin' clowns off the water !!
