Tiger Musky ? For Stocking for Curlew lake ?

Post by austin » Wed Dec 24, 2008 6:40 am

Lake, Acres, Depth, Year, Comments
Curlew, 870, 130, 1998, continuously stocked.

OK does anybody know the current count and what was the last stocking count and year?

I have caught my share there but not too many small ones. 44" was my last one there and the one before that was 48". Does anybody have a "good" way of taking the girth and length to figure out the pounds and age??? :nemo:

One of my great pals has a Cabin on her for 47 years and fishes the Fish out of her.
He keeps up with the numbers even the trout and at times he gets some dandies and I will see what Doug S has to say he caught a Monster Muskie last year just off a big weed bed I will see if he will share that great picture as well.
Turkies, Deer, fish and fun at this great little lake :compress:

The standard weight formula is length x girth x girth / 800. John Detloff, the owner of Indian Trail Resort on Chippewa Flowage, Wisconsin, compiles data on most of the muskies caught from the Flowage (including weight data from certified scales available at his resort and at Herman's Landing) and, based on years of data, came up with a formula of length x girth x girth / 754. His formula possibly is more accurate because it's based on empirical field data. So, if you caught a 44" with a 21" girth, it would weigh 24.25 lbs. under the standard formula or 25.7 lbs. under Detloff's formula.

Straight across from the park and swimming area stay close to the Cabin shorelines and weed growths and pads , be creative there are some hogzillas in there and my buds kid landed a monster last year that the picture is at the Resort he is 9 years old.
The few times I had the pleasure with Doug to fish this lake we personally did better trolling his hero stuff then pitching but both work well.:compress:
He knows the lakes drops, structures and times to do and chase them.
It helps he has had a great cabin on her 45 years .
We hooked a shaker trout last year on the noodle rod and before we got the baby in Slam+ showtime Mr Musky ate the entire 5 inch trout and gear and we were right off the pads in a water drop directly across from the park!
Doug is in Chicago/work related = when he gets home I will have him forward the pictures and locations the one on the noodle is awesome!

Fish on!:eye:
I will say he uses bigger baits then my size 16 wrapped Kwickfish for monster Kings:cheers:

PS Its a very long pull with a tub from the west side at one point I thought we were in BC! LOL
Local Turkies and deer a must do adventure as well per seasons:bigsmurf: :bounce:

Be on her one hour before 1st light until about 8am and 1.5 hours before sundown.
The locations and depths I am waiting on Doug to return my call as he is the Musky Hog and I was the boat angler on this quest.
My game is Salmon, Steelhead, sturg, Halibut, Lings and Cupcakes and TOOLS none in a direct order many times on my Mood! #-o :-" :-({|= :colors: LOL
There could be some broadening of more choices as we had a 3 day productive trip:compress:
We hooked one fish right off the pads and weed lines on the back side of the Island directly behind and across from the Swimming Park and his boy hit a Hogzilla in the cove and yes deeper.
I will try to get pictures as well/Chicago man!!!:brilsmurf :bigsmurf:

Heyah Swedefish,
Lets see some of those hog Tigers from Curlew. Beginning to doubt you and the fish stories from there.

I think the file size limit is around 200k per file that will show up as a picture, if it larger than that it will show up as a link. its easier to put you pics at PhotoBucket or someplace like that and add the html code to display them in your posts.

Oh yeah Austin,
That whole entire lake is good. Excellent structure. It's got it all. Ever cast for these Tigers? Or are you strictly a troller? All seven lakes are going to be stocked with Tiger Musky this year coming.

I'm curious what lures have proven successful for trolling.

Curlew is a long drive for everyone and that is why the fishing is still good.

I think I recognize one of those fish Mark.

Yes it was, we hadn't been in the water 5 minutes when you hooked that fish. I hope we can do it again some time.
