I recently purchased a Humminbird 597ci Combo fish finder in hopes it would help me find more fish. The problem is, I'm not finding them.
My questions are
-what am I looking for on my fish finder?
-I think all of the fish are near the top, would that make them harder to find due to the sonar looking down?
-I also show a lot of clutter in the top 25-30' in Lk Stevens, is that just surface clutter or lots of algae and stuff clouding up the water. It makes it hard to identify fish there.
-Also I spot a few areas with what looks like heavy structure north of the arraitor, and a couple just southeast of it. Can anyone tell me what these are? At first I thought they were schools of fish, but realized they are in the exact same location everytime I pass over.
-I am also having trouble loading GPS Hotspots to my SD card. HummingbirdPC spits out an error when trying to add them, even though it is .gpx format just like the file created from my waypoints.
Anyone have any advice or suggestions?
Thanks to anyone who helps.

Re: What to look for when targeting Kokes
There should be a function on your fish finder that will clear some of the surface clutter, but quite frankly at this time of the year (at least on Stevens) the fish finder isn't really that important unless you are after some of those big suspended rainbows. You are going to find 90% of the kokanee in the top 10' of the water column, and the rest won't be much deeper. So just keep it shallow and you'll be fine. As for the big structure on the north side of the aerator, from what I understand it is the power supply for the aerator.
I've been getting most of my take downs out there right on the surface, no downrigger required. The only drawback is that you don't get as solid a hookup without the added tension of the release clip, which results in a much lower hook to land ratio. I've also been using the downriggers and only lowering them enough so that the release clip is 6-12'' under the surface of the water, which seems to be a good medium that will get you bit and also provide enough tension for a solid hookup.
