Hi all
So with winter steelheading coming to a close for PS rivers I have been forced to wait until I can go to my cabin for blackmouth. My buddy lives on lake sammamish and since we hang out almost every weekend I thought heck let's try for some winter cutthroat he agreed so Presidents' Day we'll be straining the water on the lake. Now I'm a hard core float fish the rivers for salmon kind of guy but know a good amount about trolling for summer and winter salmon in area 7. He has plenty of light trolling tackle, rods, reels, small downrigger, wedding rings, spoons and dodgers. However were not completely educated for catching trout or kokes in the lake. I've heard fish can often be found in deeper water around 5-20 feet below the surface but I've also heard people catch em down at 60 feet. Just wondering if any of you old timers could give me some tips like how much line out behind the boat and depth of water and how deep the fish generally are? Also any riggings you have like leader length lures baits or scents would be helpful. Tight lines and dry waders.

You can check out my presentation on the lake Washington cutthroat fishery. A good portion of it will apply to Lake Sammamish fish. The main difference between the two lakes is the availability of bait fish and other food sources. Lake Sammamish lacks the mysis shrimp, smelt and stickleback that make up a good portion of the food web for cutts in lake Washington. You should not need to fish deep in lake Sammamish this time of year, just need to be stealthy. Fish the first 20 feet of water or put your gear on the deck as this is where the food is, not much hanging around in the middle of the water column during the winter months.
