Re: Sacheen Lake
I don't, but was out there Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun and thought I might nail one trolling around also. Caught plenty of bass/bluegill/perch and a couple crappie but never did find any trout. I saw people trolling in the middle so assumed they had to be targeting trout. Any idea how deep that lake is? As steep as the bank was where we were staying (East shore) I felt like it was pretty deep but no depth finder to be sure.
Re: Sacheen Lake
ive never been to that lake, but ive caught lots of brooks and browns. my advise:
1.) fish first few or last few hours of the day
2.)when targeting browns use something that immitates baitfish, or plunk worms injected with air. great baitfish immitations include rapalas, spoons and streamers (flies) i find gold and perch pattern rapalas best, gold spoons, and many warm colored (yellow/orange/red) streamers to be affective.
3.) brook trout also like baitfish patterns, downscaling your presentation will help, small f3 rapalas, castmaster spoons, and panther martin spinners work for brooks. worms will catch brooks as well. brooks are more apt to take dry flies and wet flies than browns imo, a size 8 adams do well for brooks as well as a wooley bugger or carey special.
4. check and sharpen your hooks often.
5. if the fish seem like they are just nipping your offering , but not committing that means your presentation or lure is close, but not quite what theyre looking for, try making slight adjustments. fish a tad deeper or slower. then try a slight change, like changing from a yellow spinner to a green spinner. or a size 4 to a size 6, sometimes a little detail like that is the difference between getting hits and landing limits.
6. last but not least, use an appropriate size line, dont target brooks with 10lb test, use 4-6pound test, maxima or better. dont use colored lines without a decent length of leader.
