Sauger in Samish?

Post by RJD » Tue Jun 09, 2015 3:03 pm

Saturday I caught what looked like a Sauger in Lk Samish. Anyone else catch one there?
It was about 14" long. Looked like a walleye but silver in color. #-o

Probably a squawfish or a peamouth.

a large mouth = squawfish - kill it.

Small pea-sized mouth, let it live.

Did it have sharp (or any) teeth? If not it was a pike minnow/squawfish.

To my knowledge sauger have never been found in Washington. I agree the fish in question sounds like a pike minnow which are common in Samish.
