guess it depends on how long the rod is. you might try some pvc pipe and hose clamps or even zip-ties behind the seat and carry it vertically...

When I was a kid, my brother and I would ride our bikes to the lake to fish. The best method I found was to, are you ready for this??
I stuck the handle of the rod down the back of my pants, then I put a button up shirt on over the rod. All other methods failed and dropping the rod while riding was common until I discovered this one. It's a little more comfortable if you remove the reel and find a place to carry it, but it can, and has been done with the reel attached.

A well placed rod down the back of ones pants can easily find it's own "Rod Holder" if you know what I mean.

I would get set up with my old method and take a photo, but my wife would think I'm crazy.

I know that you might want to just work with the rod you have.... but if you want to spend just a small amount of money you can buy a really cheap telescopic rod such as:
http://www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-Shake ... B000ODKERM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is it high quality... NO. But who cares. You are jumping on your bike and heading to the Samammish slough. It is cheap, and easy to even put into a backpack while you ride your bike. You can find this sort of thing on Craigslist, searching under telescopic rod, portable fishing rod, colapsable rod, etc.
Also more than a few people on the forum have a couple of these stowed away in the junk, and probably would part with one.

There is no true risk freeway it could be done without having some manner of affecting steering or having your rod break by catching onto something. The most convenient is to go two piece, multiple piece or telescopic.

Holding the rod in one hand and steering the bike with the other is going to be risky.

If I were willing to take the risk, I would make an arm coming from the seat stem out behind me with the rod angled behind me at maybe 45 degrees give or take. A section of PVC tubing would hold the butt of the rod in a way that it stays by way of the reel resting on the top of the PVC tub. Even in this case you still run the risk of the upper section of the rod banging into something but no risk, no reward.

You can make a similar thing for a backpack but the same risks will still be present. I think it would be cool if you built something like that.

Come on guys. Doesn't anyone like my rod down the back of the pants idea?
It worked great for me when I was a kid. And it wouldn't cost a dime :cheers:
Don't make me rig this up and attach a photo. LOL

Take your pole and bungie it from the seat to just under the handle bars. This will be out of the way as you ride. works with most bikes but works best if you have a bar (-ut buster) to tie to. This is the set up i used many years ago as a 10-16yrold riding to the 35 miles around a lake loading up on fish which I carried in a 5 gal. bucket tied to\and or off the handle bars. A backpack carried munchee's, tackle, drinks for an all day of fishing. you may find a child carrier that hooks to the back of your bike like a trailer at a goodwill/yard sale. one these would take care of most of your carting needs.

I fish with my bike alot and all I use two short bungee cords. With the reel just behind and under the handle bars, strap the pole to the main frame. Check the clearance and adjust the rod angle to avoid the rear tire.
The best thing about is you can ride the bike normally and get the rod out quickly if you find a spot to fish. I have used this method for one piece rods, but I have a large bike it may not work as well with a smaller one. It works great for two piece rods.

I re-read your post Panfisher and realized you did the same thing. [thumbup]
