Good Lake with Playground Nearby in Western WA?

Post by brownmike » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:21 pm

Hi all, just trying to get into fishing for the first time in my adult life and I'm looking for a place to take my daughter fishing this weekend within an hour or two of Seattle. I know she'll get bored pretty quickly and would love it if I can find a place with a playground or something nearby so she can entertain and wear herself out while I can (hopefully) continue to make a few casts. I have already been to Lake Meridian with her a few weeks ago and she loved it (the playground that is haha), but I didn't like it quite so much since it was extremely crowded and basically nowhere to fish.

Maybe it's too much to wish for, but I figured I'd at least ask. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is your daughter of an age where she can be independently at the playground out of your sight, and you can be maybe 500 yards away?

If so, then NE corner of Greenlake, N. Seattle. There is the T-dock on NE corner. Lake gets maybe the largest stocking of fish in King County, has plenty of holdover fish, Triploids, 20 lb carp, etc. playground is across the parking lot.

A little hard to recall a lake where you can actively fish, and have playground right on top of fishing.

Also, lake Goodwyn comes to mind. You should just do a satellite image search. But then again, legally you have to be engaged/in-control of your fishing rod, otherwise you are in violation. Just depends on if your daughter is self reliant at the playground.

In snohomish county, Martha lake (am) has a playground it's not line of sight though but it's close to the dock. Martha (wb) has a park with a playground and fishing dock. Silver lake in Everett has a toy and dock. Tye in monroe has a nice park. Also blackmans has a toy in line of sight of the dock. Logbook park has a dock good for perch and playground but it's not line of sight. I believe Bradley lake in pierce has a playground. I know im missing a couple off the top of my head, I got a 4yo so I try to find places the kiddo can play and fish mainly to make the trip as fun as possible for her. I think it's working because she's asking to go fishing more and more [biggrin]
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

We ended up at silver lake on Sunday. It was pretty slow but I did manage to catch one small rainbow early in the morning on a rooster tail. My daughter loved it! Thanks again for the recommendations!
