1) Learn how to bass fish and actually catch one.
2) Be open-minded to different techniques.
3) Become more experienced in the river for salmon
4) Teach my 3 year old sister how to fish
5) Gain more knowledge overall about fishing.

Good thread. I think to name all of my annual goals would almost be impossible. I like to set weekend goals when I go away for the weekend. Like last time I left for the weekend here was my goals.

1) catch the largest trout of my life
2) catch either a lahontan cutthroat or a tiger trout
3) get my homemade bait and jigs to work
4) fish 5 different lakes

I ended up going 2 for 4, meeting my goal on the last 2.

Every weekend its different. I set the bar kind of high last time, I only expected to reach one of them, so was pretty happy to knock down 2 of them. Usually they arnt that intense, but I like to set them some what high

My 2008 season will be quite short...my only goal at this point is to spend as much time with my son and daughter as I can fishing.

I have several goals but one that rises above all else.

I would just love to once run into somebody out there that would have the nerve to tell me that I should be releasing a legal fish that I choose to keep. Because if that happens, my next goal is going to be to hit that person with that fish. Then that person can choose to dislodge the fish if he/she wishes and release it back into the wild.

Peace

Joe
I have never met a fish yet that respected a big purchase. You can own a $100 boat or you can own a $30,000 boat. You might be more comfortable, but don't expect any fish to care about your investment.

You may have a tough time catching that pink unless go north. Pinks around here only run on the odd year. You will need to go as far as the northern tip of Vancouver Island to find pinks on the even year....... Sorry!

Lofty, yet achievable goals.
I envy you getting to go to Montana to fish. I lived there for most of the seventies and I did not fish much at all…(women, wine and fast red cars and I couldn’t see to read the sign.)

If you want some help on the carp on the fly I would like to recommend a web site to you: http://www3.sympatico.ca/ianjames/ Ian Colin James is one of the best sources of information on the subject. I also know a fisherman from another forum who is local to me who catches carp on the fly in the Columbia near Portland send me a PM if you would like to contact him.

There is a thread on this site all about the pike in Northern Idaho that might be helpful, too. http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/ya ... -Pike.aspx

Lastly I would like to say Welcome to the site!

Actually there is a even numbered year pink run on the Snohomish/Skykomish Rivers. I have hooked many while silver fishing even years, it is just not legal to keep them. We may even see a big enough return this year to have an open season on humpies. The Skykomish has had even year humpies for years now.

How big are we talking about in terms of run size Mallard? I knew they did have a run, and wouldn't mind throwing some pink jigs on the Snohomish if the fish were in big enough numbers...

I think this year I am going to set a number of fish that I have to catch. What do you guys think would be a reasonable number? 70% of the fish would be salmon, trout and panfish.

Goals
1: Fish more, work less
2: take my son out fishing more often
3: get the new(old) boat in the water, with the water on the outside
4: hit some nice warm water lakes in Eastern washington
5: resist the urge to toss said son overboard

I tried counting, it's tough. Lost interest/count roughly 1/4 of the way through the year....

Yeah I thought that would be a problem. I was thinking about doing a monthly tally, and going from there. So far this year I have a wopping 44 fish #-o
