There were some rumors of this when we were up there mid July and the helicopter was flying around. Very sad news.

The camp host was saying the detectives suspect foul play. That was the camp host though.

You never know when you might fall overboard. I saw this picture on the local lake's community web site on July 10th, 2016, so saved it.

Things can go south in a heartbeat.

Several years back we were trolling off the clay banks in Tacoma heading for the boat house and a guy in a a small outboard behind us decided to head back in.

He was maybe 50 feet from us and I watched him pull up his gear and put away his pole and then he throttled up to max and started off towards the boathouse on a path not far from us. As he just got up to speed, the lid flew off his ice-chest from the front of the boat and went sailing back towards him. He made the mistake of leaning over to catch it as it went by.

When he leaned over, he turned the tiller and the boat turned sharply and threw him right out into the water. He didnt have the safety shutoff connected to his clothes or anything so the boat kept right on turning at full throttle! It just missed us and circled him once before we could get moving towards him.

Lucky for him it missed. Another boat beat us to him and both of us got between him and the circling boat as best we could. Luckily, the engine idled down after maybe two circles just as a third boat tried to catch it, but it was a close thing for all of us.

The whole thing felt like it lasted about 100 years but Id bet it started and was over in probably less than a minute.

He of course, was not wearing a life jacket. Actually, I dont think anyone was that was out there. Ours were tucked under the seat as usual.

We were good about wearing ours for a long time after that, but we have gotten lazy the last few years. Gonna have to stop that.

Oh - he looked like he was shaken up badly but not seriously injured. One of the other boats took him aboard and another one towed his boat back in.
