Crab Butter?

Who here eats that fatty substance found in the heads of crabs? I've had it at Sushi houses but its not my favorite taste sensation.Anyone here have the methods of rendering it from the crabs? I wouldnt mind trying it at home where I can play with the added herbs and spices.

rac, that is the part they tell you not to eat due to toxin build up. If there were no fears of PCBs, then I'd probably give it a try.

As others have said, I would probably avoid doing this. Toxic as hell outa Puget Sound.

A few days ago, I read on the Hewescraft owner's forum of someone in AK who died this year from eating "crab butter". Not so sure I'd want to take the risk, at home or not.

after i boil whole crabs depending on how many beers are in me, i might crack the top and take a sip... i mean a sip..like a teaspoon thats it. usually its cause somone thinks i wont do it:chef: :chef:
