I almost got a couple early archery. About the size of large chickens! Biggest I have seen in a while.

I used to hunt them in eastern WA. I think they taste great. Saw one the other day out by North Bend and wondered if it might be worth picking up again.

I hunted them when I was much younger. Very tasty birds, kept the population in check. There are quite few techniques for getting them........ Some more sporting than others.

Nice birds! Good pics.
Growing up in Eastern WA, got to hunt both Ruffed and Blue Grouse in the Blue Mountains. Seemed to always be more Ruffed than Blue, but the Blues were bigger if you had the chance to see one. These are some pretty dumb birds too, walking across the dirt road right in front of your pickup, not in any type of hurry, nor concerned that you might want to shoot them.
Left the ones on the road alone though- cause that just isn't very sporty. Usually hunted them with our Brittany Spaniel in the thick woods and brush. Tough buggers to shoot through the trees, but sometimes you would catch one in a clearing.
Have not been bird hunting since moving to the West side of the state, so could not recommend where to go around here.
