It seems to be pretty sturdy. Does it matter what side of the downrigger I put my rodholder?

No. My rod holder is towards the bow from the DR. The tip of the rod will be out far enough from boat that you won't have to worry about line fouling after clip release.cjrodarme wrote:It seems to be pretty sturdy. Does it matter what side of the downrigger I put my rodholder?

It would be easier to sell a fiberglass boat that wasn't hacked up. I'd get a mount fabricated or a "rube goldberg" mount before I'd take a saw to a boat.
Only reason I give this advise is I didn't have this advice back in the mid-70's. We boogered a motor up adding controls to it. It would have been better to do it the proper way.

I dont plan on ever selling this boat so I'm not worried about keeping value in it. Now that I've got a mount, I'm just going to use the clamp and not saw the boat. Thank you all for the advice
