Tru Tungsten Tru Life 4" swimbaits
This isn't really a review is much as some "in hand" info. As people like ChrisB have stated, they are small, although they are in fact pretty close to 4", maybe 3.75".
I ordered the perch pattern, and it is MUCH darker than it shows on websites where you order it. Instead of a very subtle perch coloring, you instead get a very dark green back, green sides and distinct, deep black stripes. For me this is somewhat of a plus because it more closely mimics the colors of the perch I see around here. The website coloring looks more like a half digested perch that a smallmouth spits up whne you get it to the boat.
Lastly, the extra tungsten balls are not in the bait when you get it, which doesn't make much sense to me. To insert them, you have to remove a metal rod from one of the sections of the bait, which is blocking a small circular hole in the bait. This is probably similar to the larger Tru Tungsten swimbaits but I've never used them so i don't know. Anyways, this rod not only keeps the tungsten weights in place, but it also goes through 2 metal loops that keep the head of the bait attached to the body. The rod snugs in there pretty tight, but I must admit I'm not overly thrilled that a straight rod that could potentially slide out is all thats keeping my bait from being a $20 swimbait or a headless paperweight. Like I said it's pretty snug but I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye on it while fishing to make sure it doesn't ever start sliding out.
The other bait in the pics is a Rapala DT-16 for size comparison.

Most impressive! How deep are you anticipating it can go?
RE:Tru Tungsten Tru Life 4" swimbaits
I got the float/slow sink model that is buoyant without any of the tungsten balls and a slow sinker with them, so I dont anticipate using it too deep. it does have a steady rate of fall though so I suppose you could cast it out and just wait and get it as deep as you wanted. I got it more to take the place of those tiny, weightless, square billed, shallow running crankbaits that you almost need a spinning setup to fish. Also if one guy is throwing a spinnerbait in shallow water in a tourney or something this looks like a pretty nice alternative for the other guy.

Hey Nik? How much are they asking for those potential paper weights? (I suppose it matters where you purchase it from.)
I presume it is neutrally buoyant without the weights?

They are $20, and i haven't seen them for any other price. You can get them at pretty much any online tackle retailer. They have 2 models, one floats without weights (float/slow sink), one is neutral without weights (slow/fast sink).

Nice review Nik. I got the fast sink version, as I was going to use it for more smallmouth fishing. If you bend the rod just a little, and then stick it in, it will fit more snug. I believe it says to do that on the packaging. Its alot easier to do with the bigger model Tru-tungsten baits though.
You are right though, if someones fishing a spinnerbait, that would make a great alternative for the other person. Just think how much more real one looks than the other ;)

You know what I should have mentioned that. I did read that on the packaging. Problem is i'm kind of scared of trying to bend that tiny rod and breaking it in half on accident, which would leave me with the paperweight thing. If you did bend yours, how easy is it to bend?ChrisB wrote:If you bend the rod just a little, and then stick it in, it will fit more snug. I believe it says to do that on the packaging.

I haven't bent the rod with the 4 inch bait, but I doubt you will bust it.
