Helpful hints on cod fishing??

Post by Bear21 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:40 pm

Hey everyone I was talking to this guy the other day and he says that in downtown Seattle you can catch some pretty nice cod off the pier next to the aquarium. I would go down there but I wanna see if anyone has done this or maybe what to use seeing this is my first go around for cod. Also any other hot spots for cod that are from the shore (only cause Im rebuilding my outboard and a twelve footer in the winter waters is not so joyous haha). Thanks Bear.

If you can catch cod off the pier, you would have to release them. It hasn't been legal to keep cod, pollack or hake in marine areas 8 - 13 for many years now. Also, the area is closed to the retention of all rockfish as well. Fishing off the pier is pretty much limited to squid, flounder/sanddab, pile perch and dogfish. Welcome to the aftermath of poorly regulated commercial and tribal fishing.

I haven't heard of people catching cod in the sound for a long while. Was the guy you were talking about talking about Ling Cod? Because when they're in season you can catch them off the piers, Muckilteo, Edmonds, Seattle area ones etc. As for the fishing regs and shortage of fish, that's a whole other topic.
