Westport fishing
Im here at westport so i thought i would just bring my fishing stuff. Tommorow i want to try fishing of shore and have no idea what i could catch so i was just lokking for some tips. Thanks
Re: Westport fishing
hike out the jetty, fish off the non surf side almost all the way out (takes awhile to hike out there and can be treacherous) . Use big plastics, worm style jigs.. rock bass, lings a plenty! i do a sliding weight up above a swivel, 2 to 3 foot leader to your bait.. use enough weight to get it to drop down deep enough.. or you can get the big weight edjigheads and slide a plastic onto it as well..
take a look at these jigs.. something very similar will do the trick.. for lings and rock bass..

Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Love this vid. Watched it a few dozen times
Re: Westport fishing
For rockfish I've had good success fishing at slack tide when the water is mostly calm. The fish hang out close to the rocks so don't bother casting far. I've also noticed that the fish like to hang out in specific locations. You can cast for hours in a bad spot and not get anything whereas just 50 ft away you limit out each time. So keep moving. And all you need is a small curly tail on a jig head.

Sirrino. Thanks for the replty. So what colors should I make? Small for me is 5". I'll be in a boat so I might need to cast far to reach the jetty.
Re: Westport fishing
The 5" curly tails in brown work great for rockfish. Not sure if the color matters though because I've caught them on bright pink buzz bombs as well.
