Afternoon/Evening at Possession/Shipwreck

Post by kodacachers » Thu Sep 19, 2013 7:30 am

With the kids in school (and a job) I can't take them out in the mornings. Anyone having luck for Coho in the possession/shipwreck area (or elsewhere) fishing in the afternoon and early evening?

Thanks!!

I have had good success in the evening off of Edmonds. My best advice would be to fish around the tide. Hour before, hour after, and it's FISH ON!

Yup, what they said. Saltwater coho are feeding fish and tide changes no matter what time of day are periods when they feed. Fish afternoon and evening with confidence during those tide changes.

...and our tides this week are right around 6pm. Fishing should be lights out if not at least consistent from about 4:30-sun down.

I have been having a tough time catching cohos in the sunny afternoons. It seems like some guys are getting them on downriggers set around 120-150ft over 300-500ft of water between shipwreck and possession, but I have talked to many anglers coming in saying they got skunked and I have not witnessed many nets coming out while I've been out there. I have tried a little bit of deep downrigging, but with a hand crank downrigger I prefer to only have to set it to 60-70ft max so I usually troll in more shallow water. I am seeing bait balls and salmon on the fishfinder... and trying different colors of hoochies, different flashers, spoons, etc. Still not finding the winning combo and been real slow for me in the afternoons. Any help or advice with colors, depth, etc that has been working especially good in the afternoon would be greatly appreciated. I have been catching plenty in the early mornings in the same area, employing similar tactics so I must be doing something half right. It is just the afternoons that seem tough for me.

Thanks in advance!

Not having electric riggers does make it tough. I remember the same feeling, not wanting to go under a certain depth because it would be a pain to being bringing it up every 30 minutes to check the gear.

Well, I had one fish on yesterday, but nothing in the boat. Fishing between 70 and 100 feet. I should have been monitoring the site in the boat--sounds like i was too shallow!! I saw two fish caught. I tend to get skunked every other time out, so next trip is the charm!!
