Lingcod Season opens on the coast Saturday, anybody going out?
Lingcod season opens on the coast Saturday the 14th (everywhere south of Cape Alava). Does anyone plan to get out there this weekend? My friend is coming all the way down from Bellingham (dang, he really likes to fish for Lingcod ). We're going to be throwing jigs off the big jetty in Westport Saturday and Sunday. The incoming tide is perfect timewise (roughly between 10 and 5 both days).

Cool video but I don't like spear fishing. It seems like cheating, you don't have to get the fish to bite, once you spear em they aren't getting away and they don't need to weed through the small ones or keep them out of the rocks. It just doesn't seem right to me kind of like snagging you see a fish you hook/spear it only with snagging the fish has a good chance of escaping but with spear fishing the fish is pretty much dead and does not have a chance to fight . Just my opinion though.

That is a sweet video! Spear fishing would never take the place of line and reel 4 me but it sure would be fun once in a while:cheers:

I hope Fish or man ? is reeling in a LUNKER right NOW!! Damn, could be me, maybe wed/thur. Good to hear from you Kayak, I was getting worried. If you don't get a 30'+ outta the yak this year, I'm gonna be really disappointed. Weren't you hitting A5 last year?? Man, If I had a kayak I would totally let you guide me around...
As far as the spearfishing....I've never tried. But I think it takes some big jewels to dive down and try to spear those suckers. I guess not to many people try, that is why the WDFW is so liberal with spearfishing. I think the hard part with spearfishing is just finding the fish. In that video, it looked like they were getting some smaller lings in rather shallow water (40-50ft). Which, from what I have heard, is not quite as hard/dangerous. It's when your 100ft down in pitch black 50* water with 3 mph currents and a flashlight that shines 4 ft. in front of you that you really start to soil your wet/dry suit.... . I will never do it (to scared, heard to many bad stories) but in the right situation, IT IS AN EXTREME CHALLENGE! Yeah, spear that 40" ling in 110FT of water..... Hold on.... (and hope it doesn't take your finger off)!! Any luck FoM?

I wondered the same thing. Some how I don't think it means power bait.bubba800 wrote:what does PB mean :o
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

That's kinda my thought :batman: being down there is already another world in and of itself. To see their world and to battle them on the front lines... groovy.Rollin with Rolland wrote:As far as the spearfishing....I've never tried. But on the flip side, you can also be more picky about what you take because you can see them before you hook 'em. think crabbing too! ;)
