Charter boat for tuna???

I really want to try going out for Tuna this year. I have a group of friends with their husbands that will be coming. I just need to find a charter boat now! Anyone know of any good ones out there? I seem to only hear about Seabreeze Charters down in Ilwaco.

My family and I have used Pacific Salmon Charters out of Ilwaco for years for Sturgeon on the Columbia, and had pretty good times with them (we always request the Sarah K and/or Katie Marie), I have also done one Salmon Charter with them last month - though I cannot say I was overy impressed withthe captain on that one (new boat, new captain). Does Ocean Charter have a website?

I checked out Pacific Salmon Charters. I think I checked them out for Sturgeon a few months ago. Prices are a little higher than a few other places, but something to keep in mind.

There are a good number of boats that launch out of the Westport area. You will want to call and reserve ASAP as many people reserve months ahead of time to get a spot on the Tuna runs. I think almost all of the prime dates are filled with most charters, or one or two spots might be open at best. So if you have a good size group of people, you might be limited to dates on the later part of the season.

They are a bit spendy, but if you get into them, you can bring a whole lot of $$$ worth of tuna home.

I went out on a charter boat for tuna out Illwaco a couple years ago and was very disappointed. First of all they drew numbers to see who would reel in the first tuna and then took turns. Nobody actually caught their own tuna -- they just reeled them in. We caught several fish but it was not something I would want to do again. Unless you select your own lures, tie your own knots and set the hook yourself it is difficult to call it fishing. More like reeling.

Just got back from my tuna outing aboard the Ranger. In a word, AWESOME!! We brought in 160 tuna in a day and a half of fishing.

Check the boat you intend to "charter" or fish on. Make sure they are set up properly to fish live bait for albacore. Live bait fishing with anchovies or sardines is a whole new & exciting ballgame compared to trolling around & reeling fish in on a "pool cue" rod.

I am new to this site, but not new to the game. I have fished on tuna boats down south out of San Diego, Ca. and out of Westport, Wa.. In my opinion Westport has the most knowlegable fleet of Albacore boats. Steve Westrick's family own's Westport Charters and Brokers about ten boats. Many of which run for the long fin's. Steve personaly runs the Hula Girl and his son Jason is the deck hand on the boat. The trips aren't cheap though. Some of them are kind of spendy. www.westportcharters.com is there website. Most of these boats will let you use your own gear, if you are picky about what you use. Good luck and if you get on a good boat and in the fish, you will have memories that will last a lifetime.
